Hi NYY1, thanks for your response. As per my understanding, my wife needs to be PR as well before i could sponsor her SC together with my children. Hence my first SC application was with my elder son only. Or is my understanding is incorrect? I re read the eligibility requirement and now i have doubts already. If you are right, i will apply with my wife as well.

Wife needs to get PR first to then convert to SC. Only children can apply for SC directly with a PR parent.

I would interpret #1 as your wife is eligible to tag along. However, see if SF or others that have been here longer have a different take. It is possible this changed from the past or SF was thinking about spouse of SC (spouse will need to obtain PR first and then apply for SC).

1. Have been a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) for at least two years and are aged 21 and above (you can apply together with your spouse and any unmarried children aged below 21 born to you within the context of a legal marriage or legally adopted by you).

Several things come to mind, none of which, by themselves, should be an issue but together taken in total I see nothing good on the horizon. Being from an ASEAN country is of no big help to you as degrees from these countries leave a bit to be desired (in the gahment eye). I'm assuming you are a Mechanical Engineer? When you first came here were you hired as a Mechanical Design engineer or a Draughtman? (I've been around here for 40 years, the first 15 in the O&G industry, the last 25 in HR) Almost all of the Filipino Engineers who were hired here 15 years ago were for the most part Mechanical or Electrical Engineers and were hired as Draughtmen or as site technicians. Not as Engineers. But you now have tenure for sure. However, your degree & job can be filled easily by a local STEM graduate and the heavy equipment industries are not considered a technology industry so might be considered a drawback as well. Additionally, salary is on the low side considering your tenue here so that could also be a drawback. Add to that generally speaking it is hard to get SGC (but not impossible) if from the 'peens. but it's even harder if you are from Myanmar or VN or Thailand unless they have ethnic Chinese ancestors (documentary). I think your chances are low but not impossible but confirm the application details and file with full family as filing with partial family usually doesn't sit well with ICA as they have a hard time understanding why. I do as well. It usually just causes more problems that it solves.

I would agree with NYY1. It would appear that somewhere in time this has changed (It's been 27 years since I applied for and got PR but in my case it was a no brainer as had been married to local girl for 10 years and had two SGC children of 4 & 9 when I got my PR. I was also under the mistaken impression that both Husband & Wife had to be PRs if applying for SGC but the kids could tag along on the coattails. One of the reasons why they have to take the oath of allegiance when they are 21.

Hi NYY1, i have tried online app and included my wife but it didnt proceed. She needs to be PR.

Hi SF, yes i am a mechanical engineer and was hired as an engineer 15yrs ago.

Given my family's recent PR rejection, is it too soon to apply for SC or it doesnt matter? Or is it better to improve first our salary?

Unless something major changes e.g. major promotion, new job or 20+% salary increase, result is not likely to change. Should be ideally 24 months from date of rejection unless something really major changes.

Thank you SF for the assessment. We'll try to achieve that. This will be running battle since our age is also adding up.

I don't quibble about being called some different unless it's "late for dinner".

Please let me know my SC chances.

Recent PR app of my wife and children where rejected. Wife applied PR 3x as single, 1x sponsored by me, 1x with my elder son and recently with my youngest son - all were unsuccessful.

Profile:
Husband: PR for 15 yrs (yes, pr during that time was easy). I applied unsuccessfuly for SC 5yrs ago with my elder son.
Age: Late 30s
Race: Philippines (others)
Education: Degree in home country
Income: ~100k excluding bonus
Work: Senior engineer in manufacturing heavy industry

Wife: Working in SG for 14yrs
Race: Same as me
Age: Late 30s
Education: Degree in home country
Income: ~100k excluding bonus
Work: IT in local school

Eldest son was here in SG since he was 6 month old. Next yr going to be P3 in local school
Youngest son was born here. Going to N2 at sparkletots next yr.

I was hoping for their PR approval but was recently rejected. I am planning to apply for SC together with my 2 son. Or is it too early given their recent rejection? If it is, how long should i wait?

Reason for the above is for me to be able to buy a resale hdb. Current rental prices are unaffordable and condo is not within our budget. Thank you in advance for your advices!
Typically wait 2 years after rejection UNLESS something significant changes.

Not going to be easy for both their PR and your SC.

Where are you originally from ?

Ethnic Quota, salary and job profile may be the issue in my view.
What is problematic about the job profile?

Thanks SF for the assessment. We are in "others" category.

More details on job scope:
Me- research and design of machineries that sg exports worldwide while my wife is a programmer. Not sure if it contributes to our case.

We were already rooted here in SG and plan B is hard to do. I guess we just stay as long as we could and hopefully the kids can get theirs when they graduate here.
Respectable industries but I'm not sure ICA cares too much about your exact role since you're already a PR.

Any reason why your wife doesn't want to convert (to SC) as well? Not saying this is the gating issue but it probably isn't helping either.

Your older son in the local school can apply after passing a national exam (i.e. PSLE), although hard to say what the odds are.

In addition to housing, I guess another challenge is schooling for the younger child (can get in local system) and the higher ASEAN fees vs. PR fees.

Wish you luck! Understand here is home; unfortunately some factors may not be stacked in your favour (can still happen though).
Could probably try for the same school as the brother and get in that way.
