Question about renewing Re-entry Permit from overseas

Post by byseeksconseil1 » Sun, 06 Nov 2022 9:10 am

Hi,

I hold Singapore Permanent Resident status with my Re-entry Permit (REP) to expire early 2023. Currently, I am living overseas. Because I have lived outside Singapore for the better part of the past 5 years, I have not made much CPF contributions, and I am anticipating that my on-line renewal will not be successful. This will be my first renewal by the way.

I have one specific question. Suppose the REP expires on January 31, 2023, and I submit the online application for renewal now from overseas. Let's say one week later on Nov 11, 2022, I receive the notification that the REP renewal application is unsuccessful. Which of the following will happen?

1) The REP is immediately shortened to the date of the decision: Nov 11, 2022. And, since I am overseas, this means I lose my PR status immediately.

2) The REP will still be valid up to the original expiry date (January 31, 2023).

Thanks!

If you have been out of the country for 3 or 4 years, the odds of getting a renewed REP are virtually NIL. It is not going to make any difference in either scenario as you will not get a renewal even if you return to Singapore and apply in person. You current REP will be good until it's current expiry date. If you are planning on staying out of the country like a lot of other PR abuser, save yourself a bit of money and just don't come back. You are of no use to the country.

If I sound hard, I am. There are a lot of more deserving people who really wanted to be residents of Singapore and not just PR collectors and yes I remember you and also had the impression you were trying to scam the system back in 2017 when you resigned your job here and already had CA PR. If you haven't been here for 3 or 4 years, be aware that Singapore has successfully linked all government databases and can be accessed by query at immigration. Also all are tied to image recognition software that was originally created, if I remember correctly, in Australia and with modifications has been implemented here as well. They've even been able to catch maids coming in with new PP's after being deported or having otherwise left or done a runner from their employer. Also good at picking up 'working girls' with issues but coming in on new PP's with new names and at picking up NS evaders as well. Photo recognition connected to the main database is pretty darn effective.
