[Surveillance] looking for a place to lodge complaint against unlawful cyber stalking

Post by rockstargirl » Thu, 03 Nov 2022 7:02 pm

Hi everyone,

While my stay of 6 years in Singapore, past 2.5 years have been quite painful due to some stalker/s who got access to my phones at workplace and still monitoring me after leaving my last workplace and paying various parties to make contact with me in various social events to know my finance and whereabouts. I ignored first few incidents considering them random, but lately it has become a nuisance and affected my stay and jobs. I recently came across this: https://resourcehub.bakermckenzie.com/e ... rveillance.
Wanted to know that how can someone lodge a formal complaint against the suspects and launch investigation? I fear the same people are involved with committing fraud to few others as well. Does police intervene in this kind of matter? I wouldn't have bothered about this but it has caused me substantial reputation loss and peace due to attempt of theft.

The police would be my first stop. After that a lawyer to lodge a civil suit.

Have you tried making yourself a less attractive target?

I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

What does it mean? No offense, but here goes victim blaming.

Sorry if it might have sounded like I was heading toward victim blaming, definitely not.

In the scenario you painted, my first instinct would be to figure out how to make myself a less attractive target so they would naturally give up the pursuit. I tend to have a strategic mindset which compels me to isolate and manage things that are within my control in order to decrease the likelihood of undesirable outcomes. There are always going to be bad elements in society that cannot be easily controlled, despite whatever legal protections might exist. Pursuing legal remedies is often difficult and expensive.

That said, even the best strategy cannot never completely eliminate the risk of becoming a victim. Despite side-stepping some doozies, there are times I’ve been a victim too. Sometimes it is unavoidable, but minimizing the odds is always top of mind for me.

It's like the 3rd time you are asking the same question. You are always getting the same answer - go and speak to the police. Have you tried this path already?

Yup, similar thoughts. Just that sometimes your work involves certain elements where you can't completely isolate. Not after two years of lockdown when every place kind of expects physical presence. Neither anything noticeable about my appearance, just dealing with some crazy weird psychopaths here. It is easy to keep calm for some time, but after that it becomes annoying.

Why haven't you contacted the police like others have suggested? You do realize that the police in Singapore, while not flawless, are certainly a different breed from the guys you are used to back home, right?

Yes, nothing till now. Just second time.
Note down everything that has happened and update the police.

That is really good advice, thinking back on the rare occasions I’ve been a victim, having documentary evidence when pursing legal remedies has been absolutely critical.
