TV repair recommendations

Post by tiktok » Thu, 13 Oct 2022 2:36 pm

I have a 55" LCD LG TV that works perfectly, but when it gets hot after 1-2 hours it develops a 1 pixel vertical line.

I've contacted a bunch of TV repair places, most of them never replied, one quoted $280 to replace the panel, another $850, another said the panel is discontinued, another said it simply can't be fixed. But from what I've researched (um YouTube) the problem is more likely in the connections to the panel rather than the panel itself, so I'm not sure if I trust any of them.

Does anyone know a competent and honest TV repair person? Thanks in advance.

It sounds like the screen may be spoilt with the vertical lines. In time, there will be more lines..happened to my samsung TV. I just threw away my 60 inch and bought a PRISM, it's cheap and it's really good, solid visual and sound, best buy ever.

Thankful for their existence so I don't have to spend a fortune to buy another Samsung TV.

I had what was probably the best large screen TV for colour saturation and solid blacks back in it's day. (Pioneer Kuro Plasma) It started to get a couple of 1 pixel verticals after many years of service (I bought the last model that Pioneer produced - 2007- before selling the plasma rights to Panasonic. It lasted over 12 years before the first vertical appeared. By that time impossible to get it worked on so I also bought a PRISM in early 2020 - the first wave with the old operating system (Linux based OS). I'd love to get a new one with the Android OS but it is working perfectly after almost 3 years so just doesn't make sense as I don't do gaming and the kids all have their own 55 inchers in their own homes now and I don't watch TV (even Netflix I watch on my 29" PC monitor with earbuds).

Thanks, good to hear that Prism is decent brand. May buy one and send mine to the landfill.

Interesting SMS, I bought a 58" Panasonic plasma back in 07 for the bargain price of 3k Canadian! I would have loved to buy a Pioneer but that was even more expensive.

I bought Panasonic plasma around 2008 and it lasted till May this year. Based on the symptoms and error codes it looked the problem was with sub-unit power supply (perfect image, not a single defective pixel), but I just didn't bother - close to 15 years is a decent age. I just wanted to save myself trouble dealing with all the repair crooks.

Bought LG OLED as the replacement. Quality of the picture (blacks and such) better than the old plasma (which was very good). Hope it will last.
