Hi
We are a young couple planning to visit Ho Chi Minh city for about 4 days. Actually am accompanying hubby on official trip, so he'll have the weekend and 2 evenings, while Ill have 4 days.
Any ideas on what we can do and what are the interesting places to visit in and around the city??

Thanks in advance! :)

You can do a trip to the Mekong delta and spend a day or so on a boat, check out some villages, arts and crafts, floating markets etc. If you are interested in the war, visit the Cu Chi tunnels. Otherwise, shop for real or fake art, eat and drink and try not to get hit by all the crazy mopeds.......have fun!

You can check out my website at:

http://www.herbhost.com/seasia/index.htm

for things we saw in Saigon.

You can also take a day trip to Cu Chi... now quite a tourist area but still interesting, and through in a side trip to the trip to the Cao Dai temple... quite a strange and beautiful ceremony.

If your're not afraid of the traffic a scooter is a great way to see the city, and I recommend Cholon market and the river, amongst other things.

I think the Vietnamese Vietnam war memorial is an absolute must see... it is very sad... do it at the end of the day for you will have a quiet reflective dinner after this one... the photographs... the last ones in the cameras of journalists killed in action... tell a most poignant and wrenching story of the war... some of the photos are haunting.

As noted, a day trip to the Mekong Delta is also interesting.

All these can be organzied through Saigon Tourist, the state tourist agency... you can't walk down a street in the backpackers area without running into 5 of them.

Hi,

This is what I advised my colleague recently...
Hope you find it useful...

For visting places, you can start from here

http://www.vietnamtourism.com/e_pages/v ... p?uid=1225

or

http://www.saigon-tourist.com/en/entertainment

The first website should give you most of visiting places near by Ho Chi Minh.

For hotels, I am not sure, just check from here:

http://www.asiahotels.com/hl/Vietnam.asp

Perhaps you find it OK.

In Ho Chi Minh city, the weather is like Singapore's weather. It is hot all the times. It sometimes rains this season.
What you should try in Vietnam are:

1. eating -- a lot of local foods: beef noodle, spring roll, ....
2. sight seeing -- see the first website i gave you

If you have more time, you may want to go to nearby provinces such as: Vung Tau, Can Tho/Can Gio

1. Vung tau: very nice beach
2. Can Tho and/or Can Gio: you can join eco-tourism.

Lastly, for a sample itinerary, you can refer here:

http://www.responsibletravel.com/Trip/Trip101084.htm

And the below website is really wonderful, you can find many tips, many comments. I rate it number 1 :)

Yeah, hope you find this useful.
