PR Chances for Angmoh in his 40s?

Post by teaconsumer » Thu, 22 Sep 2022 9:28 pm

Is it ok if I ask here also for my PR chances? You can be straight in your assessment. I tried to write this before but somehow it got swallowed.

Main applicant:
Age: 44 at time of application submission
Race: Caucasian
Citizenship: Germany
Gender: Male
Marital Status: Divorced x2
Education: PhD in Computer Science
Job: Uni Prof (below full professor; teaching, research, admin duties)
Length of stay in Singapore: over 6 years, but one interruption: 2021 I was working in Europe
Base Salary: 150K+
Pass: EP
Children: 2 children, both not living in SG
PR Application: First time

I like to live in Singapore due to its climate, and its equal sun shine durations. After over 5 years I would like to apply PR to get some security and demonstrate some intent to stay longer.

The issue is that "others" only have ~500 approvals per year and that's where you'll be.

Also age is becoming an issue as we know the majority of approvals are for < 45 yo.

However if you don't try, you'll never know!

You’ll need some luck. The lack of family ties hurts your chances the most. They do say third time’s a charm.

If OP already has tenure, isn’t that more or less a permanent job that technically doesn’t need PR? Provided he stays in that educational institution and doesn’t change job.

I know of a tenured Prof with dual nationality and tried for PR multiple times but kept getting rejected. He has given up applying but still in SG. Got a feeling the dual nationality is one of the reasons of rejection… That or the countries he is a dual citizen of could be unusual. I can’t mention the countries because it readily identifies him.

I dont have tenure yet. in 2 years maybe.
As a German I cannot have dual nationality. In case you find it interesting or useful: Under 18 year olds can have a dual nationality with one of them being German.

True, but if OP intends to retire at some point like most of us, he will need some sort of security.

It’s definitely been done before, but will be difficult, so do not get your hopes up. A huge factor holding you back is your lack of family ties, which other members have pointed out. Being on an EP is not bad either, it does give you tentative security, although I can understand the desire to have something more permanent. Give it a go but don’t be too optimistic.

May i ask for an explanation:

Familial ties refers to me not being married to a local (sc/pr)?
Or does it refer to me having no family here?

I anyway thought about bringing my daughter over here to live with me. I can manage that in terms of care for her.

Would familial ties be more favourable for me if I would bring my daughter over here on a DP (she is not in school age yet), and apply for her PR as well?

Family ties means being married to a SC or PR.

Do take note SG still leans towards a conservative nuclear family mindset ‘cos married couples have the potential to beget a future generation of PRs/SCs. So you being single & divorced is a negative against you, even if you bring your child here on DP.

Marry a citizen or at least a PR, let that marinate for two years, then whip out the PR app. That’s why I was suggesting in your case, maybe 3rd time’s a charm (since you’ve been twice divorced).

Don’t go MGTOW just yet! Happy hunting.

Haha :D . I was never married to a PR/SC before. I think I am not on an MGTOW path 8-[ . However I would not want to compromise my interaction to my cheeky daughter living abroad over a date.

Just to share, i dont think being married or divorce got an impact. i think its still go back to race. i got a friend malaysian chinese divorcee less than 3yrs here in sg applied for pr together with kid and got approved after 6mos. she is a bank executive earning around 3.5k per month.

Because it’s an open secret that M’sian Chinese have an easier time with PR/SC applications in general. They even have an even more lax salary requirement for EP too.
