Hi all.
Looking for a bit of input here. Been given a job offer in SG for 20k/month - overall question is whether this is enough for a good quality of life as an expat family of 3?
Especially given how crazy rentals have gone over the last year!
A bit of context;
- family of 3 (11 year old son, who will go to International School)
- we are looking to live in a relatively expat friendly area for ease (eg. Holland Village)
- don’t need a car
- don’t have an extravagant lifestyle, but we do eat healthy, do sports classes etc, and need a 3 bedroom condo
- keen to have enough left over to save

Re: SG job offer
20K is way above the median income for a family in SG.Very very subjective. It all depends on how u spend.SG_bound wrote: ↑Wed, 07 Sep 2022 5:22 pmHi all.

$3.5k per month for top tier international school for an 11yo.
$1k per month for groceries (for a somewhat western, not always organic diet).
$1k per month transport and utilities
$1.5k leisure, eating out, sports classes, etc.
$2k income tax
———
$15-16k total ongoing
But that doesn’t include things like vacations, trips back home, clothing and accessories, etc…
You might still eek out some savings.

Savings will be tight with the expenses given the lifestyle we are looking at. Any thoughts on whether rental prices may come down over the next few months with more supply being released onto the market?

Re: SG job offer
Just look at the SRX rental index for the core central region (Holland inclusive) that I attached… at the very least, this steep trajectory has got to taper off and moderate at some point. If the Fed pushes us into a global recession with all of the tightening, that might do the trick… but I wouldn’t expect a crash in the rental market here (at least nothing like the big dip you see in the chart in 2009).SG_bound wrote: ↑Wed, 07 Sep 2022 8:27 pmThanks this is very useful.
