Wow, imagine having to go 29 years never being able to leave the country, not even to JB, for fear that you wouldn’t be able to reenter the country.therat wrote:last mth, TODAY interview one stateless man who took 29 yrs to get citizenship.'

Yep, but I definitely think something should be done to expedite the citizenship process for such people. Nobody should have to live stateless.malcontent wrote:It’s just bad luck for these people… sometimes no fault of their own. And when faced with the sausage grinder, they don’t stand a chance.

He turn down that offer.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Thu, 29 Sep 2022 12:49 amWow, imagine having to go 29 years never being able to leave the country, not even to JB, for fear that you wouldn’t be able to reenter the country.

Honestly, can’t imagine any reason why someone would turn down citizenship after 21 years of being stateless. Downright crazy.therat wrote:if you read that article, government did offer him citizenship when he is 21 yr old. Re: Ignoring ICA on citizenship
Even if he was looking to turn down citizenship in favor of becoming a citizen of another country, why wouldn’t he just take up the offer first and then pursue other citizenship options after?x9200 wrote:Looks like self-inflicted damage due to some thoughtless cherry picking.therat wrote: ↑Thu, 29 Sep 2022 9:09 amif you read that article, government did offer him citizenship when he is 21 yr old. Re: Ignoring ICA on citizenship
Could be he thought he had better chances to get the Australia citizenship being stateless than having already a citizenship secured.

I’d think that when you’ve been stateless all your life you take what you can get, especially when it’s as strong as SGCx9200 wrote:Could be he thought he had better chances to get the Australia citizenship being stateless than having already a citizenship secured.
