Renting in CENTRAL SG
How much would I need to earn in and pay to be able to live in a reasonably spacious appartment with 3 beds (minimum) with good links to central SG?

Assuming you mean Marina Bay or similar....at least 6k maybe more for rent. Probably 8k.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

There are plenty of websites devoted to this. Why would you ask here.

The fact that this is an Expat website and he is 59 years old and British might have a wee bit to do with it.

Thanks all.
I'm not necessarily looking at Marina Bay, but instead looking at areas that have good transport links to shopping centres etc. We have been to Sg a lot and I have no problem with using the MRT to travel anywhere.

Where are you likely to work?
Shopping centers are everywhere - all over Singapore. However, there's a difference between the ones in the downtown area vs the "neighborhood" malls.
Any other criteria that are important to you?
If you google search, you will probably find the top sites that deal with property listings and you'll get a very good idea of the current rates which have been on the rise recently. Off the top of my head, there is [deleted].

I'm likely to be working in the CBD but happy to commute so distance not an issue.
Just one further question. Other than Marina Bay, what areas would people recommend as good and affordable areas to live in? Schools are not an issue.

East Coast is a nice, especially if you are active and do a lot of jogging or cycling. The only problem is, the current MRT line doesn’t have great connections to most of the condos there.
The new downtown MRT line now goes all the way to upper Bukit Timah, that area has some decent housing options with better prices.
I once knew a young American guy who worked downtown and he rented a condo at Compass Heights — right on top of the mall and Sengkang MRT station. I’ve been to his condo and it wasn’t bad, the rent was cheap, and it was a 30 minute train to the CBD… but it also depends where exactly in the CBD you need to go.

Re: Renting in CENTRAL SG
Heard from wife’s friend that 3BR condo around Orchard is now moving towards S$10k/month.
Sentosa is probably S$8-10k too…
New condos are not as spacious, could probably find something around Tiong Bahru for S$5-6k
