Yeah, at this point if you’ve been vaccinated and boosted you may as well just get Covid so you don’t need to worry about it as much. According to official statistics, 1.83 million have already gotten it, which is a little under a third of the country. I would’ve expected it to be way more, seems like everybody I know has already gotten it.malcontent wrote: ↑Wed, 31 Aug 2022 12:13 amMasks can actually give a false sense of security, because air is always coming in from the sides unless you wear it very tightly and force all of your air through it — which is not easy.jalanjalan wrote: ↑Tue, 30 Aug 2022 11:48 pmEveryone I ask says they will keep wearing mask for now, and everyone in the neighbourhood is still masked up. Safe distancing and holding your breath while briefly walking past people at unsafe distances is far more effective. But even more important is hand washing and avoiding high touch items like door handles, money, etc.
But at the end of the day, everyone is going to get it, and that is not a bad thing - it’s helpful to build herd immunity. It’s the only way we can move past this and get back to normal.

Can definitely relate to the fatigue, when I got Covid I had vertigo as well. Was so dizzy I could barely walk, even when I would lay down the dizziness wouldn’t stop. It’s gone away since then, thank goodness.jalanjalan wrote: ↑Wed, 31 Aug 2022 12:27 amOur symptoms were not too bad but the fatigue was real. It was kind of nice to do nothing for a week except sleep and watch TV. I think we caught it from the queues outside 2 clinics between us and the nearest coffeeshop, so yea, masks are more a psychological safety thing. Nice not to have people sneezing on the yong tau foo though.
Re: Mask or no mask
Long covid - I did have mucous in my throat for longer than usual. About a month maybe. It took me a about a month and a half to get back to where I was before covid as far as gym and running performance was concerned. Not sure if that counts as long covid. Or maybe I dodged it because I exercise a lot.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Wed, 31 Aug 2022 2:24 amAt least things weren’t bad for your daughter, I would be really concerned if my daughter was still young. I think I escaped it, but then again the risk of getting Covid again is always there.smoulder wrote: ↑Wed, 31 Aug 2022 12:10 amI was masked up as well. However, to be honest, I've had far worse symptoms from "normal" cough, cold and fever than I had with covid. Like for instance, in 2021 I had a really severe infection - I struggled to walk to the neighborhood clinic which is 2 buildings away. I was breathless and I had to stop mid way. Meanwhile, I was out doing midnight jogs with covid.
Re: Mask or no mask
I had a severe case of vertigo and vomiting in Nov 2019. I've been convinced for awhile it was Covid19 but had no way to prove that.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Wed, 31 Aug 2022 2:27 amCan definitely relate to the fatigue, when I got Covid I had vertigo as well. Most people are still masked. In the malls, in our office, and almost in every covered area.
I always forget to remove my mask after alighting from public transport. Some habits are hard to break.

It’s all about conditioning. Just like the “have fewer babies” policy of the past, it’s hard to turn the ship!

Re: Mask or no mask
Happy without mask every day since they allowed but feeling strange with so many people around still wearing them. At my work place I reckon 95% is still masked. Not much better outside. Funny enough I got impression more people wear it outdoor now than before Monday.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Wed, 24 Aug 2022 8:37 pmNow that masks are soon to be optional, I’m wondering what you all are planning on doing. Personally, I’ve gotten in the habit of making faces behind my mask, not to be unkind or anything but rather just as a sort of tick. Not sure I’ll remember to keep a straight face after three years of behind the mask fidgeting. Still, it’s an exciting prospect.

Think the criteria for what constitutes long covid is fairly vague - no real symptom or symptom length guidelines to go by.smoulder wrote: ↑Wed, 31 Aug 2022 7:26 amLong covid - I did have mucous in my throat for longer than usual. Well unless you were in SG it’s pretty unlikely to have been covid - the first case was only detected in 2020 if I remember correctly.PNGMK wrote: ↑Wed, 31 Aug 2022 7:52 amI had a severe case of vertigo and vomiting in Nov 2019. Yeah, there hasn’t been as much of a change as I expected, for the sheer number of people that couldn’t stop complaining about having to wear one they sure don’t seem to be in a rush to take them off!

So true! Now we’re going from few babies to no babies and the governments can’t do anything about it.malcontent wrote: ↑Wed, 31 Aug 2022 8:08 pmIt’s all about conditioning. Just like the “have fewer babies” policy of the past, it’s hard to turn the ship!

Re: Mask or no mask
I think part of the reason why so many people have it on is because they take public transport. Once they alight they either forget to remove it or choose not to since they already had it on for so long.x9200 wrote: ↑Thu, 01 Sep 2022 3:25 amHappy without mask every day since they allowed but feeling strange with so many people around still wearing them. Re: Mask or no mask
Possible. But I think more and more people chose not to wear them. Also, right from the start, hardly any Caucasian I saw had the mask on so the conditioning seems a bit cultural.
