PR Related Doubts

Post by pmthosani » Fri, 19 Aug 2022 8:03 pm

Hi everyone,

I applied for my PR in March 2022, 5 months in. I applied through my spouse's sponsorship. I am also currently working in Singapore. Awaiting to hear from ICA regarding my PR.

I am not happy with my job and was looking to quit but my PR application outcome hasn't come yet. Does me quitting my job affect my PR chances? Because I really can't take another day in this company but I also dont want to ruin my chances at getting my PR.

Here's my Profile :
Race :Indian
Years of stay : 7 yrs
Bachelor's degree from Singapore
Working with a company for 2.5+ years
Married for 6 months
Spouse: Singapore Citizen
Spouse completing post grad.

Hoping to get some clarity on this. Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks

If PR was indeed applied via family ties scheme aka spouse sponsorship, I personally feel they will be looking at the spouse’s employment instead. So you should be safe if you’re unemployed.

But I noticed you said your spouse is completing post-grad, does that mean PhD studies? If so, the PhD stipend is NOT considered a salary at all. Chances will be low until she gets a proper salaried job, then she has to update ICA ASAP. You didn’t mention your wife’s race & field of study… is she going to take a job in what she studied in?

In addition, you’re only married for 6 months and you applied for PR way too soon so do not be surprised if you get a rejection because it can be seen as a marriage of convenience. You should have waited after 2 years of marriage before applying. If you’re rejected, wait 2 years after the rejection date before applying again or after a Singapore child is born.

I can share that sponsored PR for my husband who was unemployed for the whole time his PR was being processed. I did update ICA when he got a job around the same time the “submit documents” button disappeared and two weeks later, the PR was approved. During the PR appointment, it looked like they only checked my employment letter. Though I can’t be 100% certain since I was not allowed at the counter, could only observe from afar. Only the applicant (my husband) can be at the counter during the appointment.

Thank you for your reply. My husband is a singapore citizen.

Also, during formality completion, does the sponsor need to be present?

^ We know your spouse is a citizen but what race? That also matters too. Pardon my initial post, I thought you were a foreigner husband instead of a foreigner wife.

The citizen spouse’s IC is needed for the formalities so it is better for the spouse to be there.

Also, I did submit my 6 month payslips and employment letter during the application. Do I need to inform ICA If i quit my job while PR is still pending?

Of course. If your PR was approved and you show up to the appointment without any current letter of employment or recent payslips, that would be very bad.

Wouldn't they already be informed by MOM as my S pass would get cancelled? And I would also be applying for my LTVP.. will that cause any complications?

Thank you for responding to my questions. I feel like I'm in such a tough spot.

No, ICA will not be informed when your S Pass is cancelled. MOM =/= ICA. They are separate entities and they do not always send info to each other.

If you’re so worried then just apply LTVP now, get the LTVP, and after that quit your job.

With ICA, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Something has to be compromised if you want to remain here in SG with your spouse.

Do take note LTVP processing this year is taking months, even with PMLA LLE. Can you afford to quit your job now, be on STVP, keep applying for STVP extension (which isn’t guaranteed) while LTVP is being processed? And look at the other threads on this board, earliest LTVP appointment is now in December.

Or you go for some therapy to cope with the work stress while LTVP is being processed.
