What is the official age to retire in Singapore?
63 years
The minimum retirement age in Singapore is 63 years

From 1 July 2022, the retirement age has been raised to 63, and will gradually be raised to 65 by 2030. This means that your employer can't suggest that you “retire early” or dismiss you from your job before age 63, for age-related reasons.

But they can fire you without having to provide a reason at all, right? So I'm really not sure what 'protection' an older worker really has.

If they terminate you without a valid, provable reason, you can take them to court (MOM Court - no lawyers allowed). It's possible to get 1 month's pay for each full year of service employed. I had to go to the court on one occasion for my old company. I already told the owner the consequences if it went fully south (we knew what the two employees did but they couldn't prove anything except with circumstantial evidence.). I managed to negotiate to 2 weeks for per year of service so my boss was happy with that as both employees had more than 10 years service.

This is why so many people try to get a retrenchment package in their late 50s , early 60s and then move on to another project or job until their CPF kicks in. IF you can walk out as I did at 57 with 13 months salary you've got a fair chunk towards a retirement package.
