Ex Singaporean Looking to move back as an Expat

Post by Ausram88 » Sun, 07 Aug 2022 2:50 pm

Good day everyone!

I am an ex Singaporean citizen who moved to Australia many years ago.

NS obligations have been completed.

I am looking to move back to Singapore for a variety of personal reasons.

Culture wise, I am well acquainted with the ways of an everyday Singaporean and it is still home to me in many ways.

I am a CPA qualified Accountant with about a decade of experience in various areas.

Where can I start looking and who should I be talking to?

Always happy to share more details with people keen to assist.

Cheers!

Interesting.

There are a few factors that should be considered.

First thing to consider is that you will have to get yourself a visa, most likely an employment pass. That will depend on your age, qualifications, experience and which industry you work in. You will obviously need to find a job and your employer must be willing to sponsor your employment pass.

Secondly, are you thinking about moving back for good or just temporarily? If it is the latter, then depending on your work skills, you could probably pull that off. However, if it is the former, I think you will find that you have lucked out. Long term residency probably means applying for PR. More experienced members will probably have a better idea, but I suspect that the ICA will not give PR to an ex Singaporean.

I would say temporary rather than permanent and see how things go in the long run.

You are right about ICA not giving PRs to ex citizens.

What are the best employment seeking channels for expats in general if one actually exists?

LinkedIn is your best friend. It's probably not going to be easy - a vast number of foreigners were transferred in by their companies. Being hired while overseas does happen, but it's not very common.

You can get PR as a former citizen. It's not likely but does happen.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Do you know of actual cases of ex Singaporeans becoming PRs and how did they go about the process?

^ there's no special process - you fill out the form, either under the PTS scheme or the FT scheme and you submit. Then you wait in hope.

As for what kind of profile - I would think that it wouldn't matter too much because no 2 applicants are the same, and especially because the similarities are probably so few, with such a tiny sample size.
