Owning a new car in Singapore is expensive. A secondhand car brings costs down dramatically, but not everyone is into that.
Tactically speaking SG is small. You don't need a car to travel around as Public transport is every where around bus and MRT.
Of course if you need to go those far places still wise to take a Taxi.
Side not Private hire actually is expensive than Taxi.
I would say SG is one of the easiest countries to get by without a car, not just because of size, but also because of great connectivity due to the public transport network, as well as the fact that SG is a very walkable city. And while it may seem expensive to take private hire cars every day, the cost is actually less than that of owning your own car. That I definitely agree with you. What I think you've neglected to consider are intangible costs, like lack of convenience, for example having to wait a long time before getting a Grab on a particularly busy or rainy day.

I Only take taxi if urgent or else usually I take MRT or Bus. Perhaps I stay in Central location. I not a rich dude stay in condo or landed house in central area. I still stay in an old HDB flat , where is a place I grow up, childhood memories all .

Of course sometimes hard to get a taxi , my side here got a taxi stand. Depends. and YES i DO agreed with you, come Taxi, Grab during peak hours or rainy day can hard to get.

Side note, I don't even use Grab. LOL I don't even have the app to book. I still a traditional dude , either wave my hand at the roadside if spotted a taxi or just go taxi stand but as I have mention only apply " urgent needs ".

Normally mostly on MRT beside bus. As my side here got one MRT station quite near my block. Go to Orchard road just take like 15 mins via train.

There are merits to both sides of the story.

Yes, public transport is efficient and serves the purpose the majority of the time.

However, for parents with young kids, there are times when you are with shopping bags and a tired and cranky toddler, it's raining and you can neither flag down a taxi nor get one through grab. You can't take a regular grab because that is not legal - it must be a taxi and therefore your choices are limited. So there are times when a car is very useful.
