Hi all,
Anyone has an idea if it is a strict requirement (SC application under sponsor) for the main sponsor to be in employment/ have contributed taxes and CPF?
Wondering if an SC is able to sponsor his/her SPR spouse's citizenship application without having been in employment for the past few years, and use bank statements/ title deed (or other sources of income such as parents monthly allowance, etc. which is quite common here in Singapore) as proof of sufficient income to become the sponsor? The ICA user guide only seems to ask for employment proof, and CPF contribution proof as proof of income on the part of the sponsor.
Will be interesting to know if anyone has successfully sponsored an SC application without having been in employment.

You can sponsor, but chances for success will be very low.starspeckledbanner wrote: ↑Fri, 01 Jul 2022 5:10 pmHi all,

Thanks singaporeflyer for the quick reply.
Was wondering in the case of someone who married young (while schooling), but has yet to work, but comes from a rich family. He/she would like to sponsor spouse, in that case not possible as didn't contribute taxes or cpf? No alternative documents or background checks?

They assess on the sponsor not on the sponsor's parents/rich familystarspeckledbanner wrote: ↑Fri, 01 Jul 2022 6:23 pmThanks singaporeflyer for the quick reply.

How did wife get SPR ?
Are you married for 2 yrs ? Even if yes, they will expect the sponsor to have stable work/business income. Consistent work history will matter more compared to a big lump sum in bank account.

Re: Is it possible to sponsor an SC Application without employment?
Husband sponsored wife's spr 3 years ago while he was doing a short 8 month stint. Got the spr approved in like 6-8 months, really quick. Spouse been working for the past 3 years on spr while her husband finished school and lazed around. He's now hesitant on applying for the citizenship as sponsor even though it's been more than 2 years because of the lack of employment/ idling away and not contributing cpf, but I've been suggesting giving it a go as no harm trying especially during covid times where employment can be hard and given his well to do family background. In that case, might be better/ safer for the husband to get a job and then apply it seems.

They've been married for over 6 years at least. That might be a strong factor too
