I’d say Von Maur is a notch above Macy’s, but a notch below Neiman/Nordstrom — importantly they have a wider selection, and a larger clearance rack (which is where you’ll find me).
Nordstrom Rack started out as an in-house TJ Maxx for Nordstrom stuff that didn’t sell in their main stores… but the selection has improved a lot in recent years. Now they even have Nordstrom Rack branded items made specifically for Rack stores.
Your mention of Macy’s reminded me of JCPenney. In the last few times that I’ve been there their prices have dropped significantly, probably has something to do with the fact that they’re going out of business. You’ll probably be able to find quite a few good deals there, my personal favorite was when I managed to get a pancake griddle for $7.49 instead of the original price $49.99. I was practically clicking my heels when I got out of the store!
I was actually quite shocked when I went into Macy’s… about 40% of the floor space was unused and the racks they had were slim pickins. I spent about 5 minutes in there and walked out. It’s just sad.
What?! That’s certainly not how I remember it. Are they going out of business? Perhaps retail is just dying. Though I do appreciate the convenience of online shopping, nothing beats the excitement of walking into a store.

The difference in places like the US is that the public transport system is not nearly as advanced as it is in Singapore so a lot of times if you don’t have a car you quite literally have no way of getting around. Whereas in Singapore the problem is the converse where we have too many cars and not enough room on the road so they need to price things so high that only those who truly truly are willing to make the financial sacrifice are able to get a car.
If Singapore wanted to make car ownership "fair", they'd dump the COE system and go to a simple lottery. They know exactly how many COE's will be issued. A lottery would permit poorer people to buy a car OR sell the COE to someone else willing to pay for it. Time limits could be set for lottery winners... use it or sell it within a specified period of time or lose it.
Lol funny socialist. Let’s make tax also by lottery. All those who get picked pay 20%. If a rich guy does not get picked he pays 150$ per month.

Ha ha! Funny capitalist. Why should the amount of money you have be the sole determinant as to whether you can drive a car in Singapore or not?

^ that's how it works in a very large number of countries around the world. Not just Singapore which also has the added expense of the COE. Quick Google search shows that 689 million people live on under $2 per day. Safe to say that they don't have enough money to buy cars even though many of those countries don't have COEs.
Anyway, I'm not sure how the conversation ended up here.

COE Prices worrying

It's a worrying trend...something should be done to curb these high COE prices. How could the COE 'value' be more than the worth of a car?
