Can i renounce my PR later?

Post by KoKo2 » Thu, 28 Apr 2022 7:16 pm

Hi guys,

I am a PR holder from Singapore.
Now I am outside of Singapore because of my health.
I was rejected by the online REP renewal.
Should I renounce my PR?
Or should it be canceled on its own? Because I will apply for PR again later if I can.
What are the problems in future if i do not renounce PR?
Another question is how to access CPF website without Singpass after i renounce PR.
Because i will not withdraw my CPF.

Thanks and all the best

If you want to reapply, do not renounce. Simple as that.

If he's living outside of Singapore when his REP actually expires, unless he can get back within 30 days after the expiry of the REP and pay the fine (used to be $100), he will automatically loose his PR regardless. He needs to get back here before it expires and then find a job and apply for the REP (It will probably only be for one year IF they renew it and then at the end of that year, maybe, maybe not, but if he leaves again, within that one year it will be curtains. Not sure why he wants to know how to access his CPF if he's not planning on withdrawing it. Look for recent post by Myasis Dragon I believe he went through that after he returned to the US, but not sure.

If he gives it up he will have to go through the entire work visa 2 years plus before applying for PR again, with no guarantee of gaining same. In fact, the criteria may well have changed during that time frame as well. The world is in a major state of flux.

I believe you do NOT lose your singpass access when you renounce PR.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Wouldn’t you get to keep all of your identification? Your IC number, Singpass etc.

I believe you may well lose your Singpass account, but there was a thread on this, this time last year........viewtopic.php?t=133792

Here are some useful links via Myasis Dragon.
