Ohanami Celebration - Japanese Manju Recipe

Manju Recipe - Japanese Sweet Recipe

Manju is a traditional Japanese steamed cake.


1 cup all purpose flour
2 tsps baking soda
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup anko (sweet azuki beans from Isetan Supermarket)


Mix flour and sugar in a bowl. Put baking soda in the water. Add the water in the bowl. Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes. Divide the dough into 12 pieces. Make round shapes and flatten them. Put anko (sweet beans) filling on the center. Wrap the anko by stretching the dough and make manju. Steam the manjyu on high heat for 15 minutes.

For Japanese confectionery, my favorite recipe is to go to the basement of Takashimaya and buy them fresh from the specialist shops there.
