I have been staying here in Singapore for almost 5 years and just applied for PR March this year which is currently pending. Below is my profile:

Status: Pending (applied March 2022)
Age: 33
Gender: Male
Marital Status: Single
Nationality: Filipino (Philippines)
Ethnicity: Others
Education: Bachelor and master’s degree (Finance) from PH university
Length of stay in SG: 5 years
Pass Type: EP
Work Experience (10 years, 5 from PH, 5 from SG)
Industry: Banking (Risk Management)
Salary: Base ~120k + variable ~20k

Before applying PR, I interviewed colleagues/friends who applied for PR. Just want to add some data points here (where profile provided is as at time of latest application):
  • [Success; 1st try; approved 2022; 13 months waiting] 37M, HK Chinese married to HK Chinese on EP with 1 daughter; 5 years in SG; Banking industry; *at least 120K salary; Bachelor’s degree from HK uni.
  • [Success; 1st try; approved 2021; 4 months waiting] 32M, Malaysian Chinese and married to a Malaysian Chinese EP holder; 6 years in SG; Banking Industry; *at least 100K salary; Bachelor’s degree from a MY university; Post-grad local SG university.
  • [Success; 1st try; applied 2021 approved 2021; 5 months waiting] 29F, Malaysian Chinese and single; 3 years in SG; Banking Industry; *at least 90K salary; Bachelor’s degree from a MY university.
  • [Success; 3rd try; approved 2021; 13 months wating] 36F, Vietnamese and married to Vietnamese EP holder with 1 daughter; 8 years in SG; Banking Industry; *at least 120K salary; Bachelor’s degree from local SG university.
  • [Success; 1st try; approved 2017; 11 months waiting] 33M, PRC Chinese married to PRC Chinese on DP with 2 sons; 7 years in SG; Banking industry; *at least 100K salary; Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from SG uni.
  • [Success; 1st try; approved 2017; 7 months waiting] 33F, Indonesian Chinese married to Indonesian Chinese on EP with 1 son; 8 years in SG; Banking; *at least 120K salary; Bachelor’s from a ID university.
  • [Success; 1st try; approved 2015; 10 months waiting] 36M, Filipino married to Filipino on EP with 1 son; 10 years in SG; Banking; *at least 120K salary; Bachelor’s from a PH university; Master’s degree from local SG university.

  • [Success; 1st try; approved 2011; 1 month waiting] 38M, Indian married to Indian on DP with 1 son, 1 daughter; 10+ years in SG; Banking industry; *at least 100K; Bachelor’s degree from top IN university
  • [Still Trying; 3 failed attempts so far since 2016; 4 months initial reject] 37F, Indian married to Indian on EP holder with a daughter; 8 years in SG; Banking industry; *at least 140K; Bachelor’s degree from top IN university.
  • [Still Trying; Failed attempt in 2022; 4 months wait on 1st rejection] 33M, Filipino single on SP; 7 years in SG; Employed by local SME; *around 70K salary; Degree holder from PH university.
  • [Still Trying; 2 failed attempts so far since 2017; 4 months wait on 1st rejection] 44M, Filipino married to Filipino on EP; 10 years in SG; Consultancy; *at least 100K; Bachelor’s degree from a PH university.
Just want to say that this forum helped me get back to reality. Even though the data I collected from friends/colleague seems to be positive, I understand that approval is sill on a case-to-case basis.

My hope was on its peak recently when a friend (33M from Hong Kong, Chinese ethnicity) told me that he just got his PR approved last Thursday after 8 months of waiting (applied February 2022). He also mentioned that his colleague’s application (35M from Indonesia, Chinese ethnicity) got his PR approved also this October after 9 months of waiting (applied January 2022).

I’m still setting my expectation low, but not gonna lie, hearing this recent good news from someone you know makes you want to believe you also have a good chance (even if it’s not the case). Hoping for the best, expecting the worst!

LET'S GO!!!!
Best of luck! Can get others' opinions but the cases in blue are most applicable to you. Married with kids, longer stay in SG, and educated here all likely help.

The key data from above is those who got approved are HK or Malaysian or Indonesian who are close to those profiles which SG needs to keep the balance. The other few whom you quoted have stayed long enough in SG like more than 7-8 years and also more than 150k+ salary. Hope you see these when comparing it..

At the moment I feel your chance is low.

Rumor is that pinoys used to be under the M category of the CMIO.

But is now tagged as O… which has the lowest % of the racial quotas.

Their fields of research are diverse. Cancer, ageing, neuro, etc. Even the “hot” fields don’t guarantee anything.
I believe it would offer somewhat of an advantage though. Being more educated is always a plus, and when you have potential to contribute to research/advancements in areas with high demand, your chances should increase.

I suspect that Covid might have prompted more Malaysians than ever to apply, raising the bar for everyone else. So an increase in rejections might have more to do with the number of Malaysians in the queue (we know who gets ultimate priority).
Definitely agree. Though on the other hand, it's interesting to note that a number of locals crossed the border to Malaysia (those, I'd imagine had houses there and WFH jobs).

I have 4 PHD friends out of whom, 2 got their SC recently and 2 are still PR's. All in the last 5-7 years. 2 of them are from India, 2 from UK.
Sample size is still very small, but I think this lends some credence to the idea that a doctorate furthers one's chances.

I know before 2010, PRC PhD holders had a fairly easy time getting PR ‘cos my now-SC colleague and her fellow PRC friends have PRs from that era. Now even PRC PhD doesn’t guarantee a PR.
I think that can be explained by the fact that demand has gone up exponentially in recent years so now being incredibly qualified only puts you in a pool to be chosen among other equally qualified candidates.

cell based meat, biotech, cancer research and one i don't remember. Only one of them did their PHD in SG. All others no education in SG, but stayed here > 3 years
These are all areas with very high contribution potential, not surprised if this advanced their chances.

4 kids all DP but not studying in Singapore(16M, 14F, 10M, 8M)
Applying for yourself, you & spouse or whole family?

Whichever permutation it is:
- Low to NIL chance due to ethic quota.

- If you’re applying for just yourself or you & spouse, zero since not having the kids in the application implies you want the boys to not do NS.

- If you’re applying for whole family, your kids aren’t even in Singapore at all. Chances are also close to zero. PR is for people who want to sink roots here, how does being overseas equate to sinking roots?
Yup, seems like no matter how you look at it, chances are close to none.

I have been staying here in Singapore for almost 5 years and just applied for PR March this year which is currently pending. Below is my profile:

I'm sure the data points you provided will prove very helpful for others in your position, so thanks for sharing. Unfortunately for you, however, it seems
that chances are fairly low due to salary and ethnicity. If denied, wait for your length of stay to increase as well as salary.

Rumor is that pinoys used to be under the M category of the CMIO.

But is now tagged as O… which has the lowest % of the racial quotas.
I've heard this too, also heard a similar rumor about Vietnamese applicants once being filed as Chinese but not sure how true this is.

No rumour, at least if you have documents from at least as recent as a grandparent who is listed on any VN document at being ethnic Chinese then it is a go. As far as ethnicity is concerned (but must be original VN documents.

I concur with both smoulder & SF's posts. After looking through all examples I've decided to look at it from an apples to apples comparison with the OP's profile with one exception that I added in the Viet as well as both fall under the Other's grouping. Other than that one, the rest of the apples are all Filipinos.

So my main take away, other than the obvious, the Others category, when comparing him with the rest of the apples highlighted, he has the least amount of strength in several fields but one of the big standouts that I see is education. Most of the others who are not successful do not have advanced degrees from Singapore
