Hey folks,

Want to check my chance before I apply. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly helpful

Status: Haven’t applied yet
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Marital Status: Single
Nationality: American
Ethnicity: Chinese
Education: Bachelor from the States. Decent university but not well known
Length of stay in SG: 20 months
Tax cycle: two
Pass Type: Was on EP now on PEP
Work Experience (10 years, 8+ years in the US, the remaining in SG)
Industry: Tech
Role: Machine learning engineer
Salary: Base ~250K per year not including bonus or stock

Not sure if this improves my chance, I recently purchased a small private condo in Singapore
Try applying after 1-2 years? But keep hopes low.

I'm betting on a wait of one more year (3 tax cycles) but well before your PEP expires you will be successful. Wait to apply until you have been employed here for 36 months, much better chance.

You tick all the right boxes and a good income but not yet in the stratosphere. Eligible Single ethnic Chinese early 30's. It looks like you applied for PEP before your 1st renewal of your EP. I have to wonder why as that definitely shortens your period here. Normally one waits until after the first EP renewal then applies for the PEP. By doing it this way, in a worst case scenario you have shortened your "permanency" here by at least 4 to 6 months.

Purchasing a condo here is immaterial. Only helps you, not the country.

Because the tech market is quite uncertain right now with all the layoffs. Also the minimum salary requirement for PEP is going up in 2023, and I won't be able to qualify.

So the grinch came early: I got my rejection notice. :( Not gonna lie, it's a little devastating especially after 9 months wait. Would have preferred to get the rejection 4 to 6 months in. Not that I'm expecting a favourable response given the longer wait, I know it's not the case, but this bad news could have waited after the festive season. Lol. Anyway, it is what it is.

Providing some refresher/points about speculations regarding the process:

(1) Longer wait does not imply approval. [-X
Well this is a known fact, but leaving it here anyway.

(2) The wait time after upload button disappear and final status appear varies. There is no way to tell the status while playing around with the website (at least not the ICA links):

- Upload button disappeared 9 months and 2 days in, and got rejected status after another 4 days
- During the 4 days wait, clicking the enquire application status sometimes result to you being redirected to PR application page and there are few times when the link doesn't work at all
- There are 4 lines on my enquire status page but this has no bearing on the eventual result (as most already pointed out).

Looking at the bright side, I still get to work here in SG so there's that.

Good luck to all the hopefulls out there!
That's rough, unfortunately ICA doesn't care about your preferences/feelings. Will you be applying again?

Yeah agree, ICA is indifferent so such. Haha. If I need to put a positive spin I would say the longer wait may suggest there's some slight consideration vs being rejected at the 4th month of waiting.

I'll apply again in 2 years time if I'm still in SG.
That's a nice way to look at things (though SF is right, could very well be covid delays). Best of luck!

Condo is irrelevant. Other than that you have a pretty good profile, only thing is you haven't been here very long and salary may be considered a flight risk.

Makes sense. A forward thinking decision on your end then.

No such thing as no chance, but you'd be better off waiting as if you are rejected you'll have to wait 2 years or so before reapplying anyway.
