Most of the others who are not successful do not have advanced degrees from Singapore
I think both his degrees are from PH and not from SG. But yes, his master degree will still add some additional points.

I've heard this too, also heard a similar rumor about Vietnamese applicants once being filed as Chinese but not sure how true this is.
No rumour, at least if you have documents from at least as recent as a grandparent who is listed on any VN document at being ethnic Chinese then it is a go. As far as ethnicity is concerned (but must be original VN documents.
Ah, I do know that many Vietnamese are ethnically Chinese, just like how a lot of Thai tend to be Chinese or Muslim. Makes sense.

I suspect that Covid might have prompted more Malaysians than ever to apply, raising the bar for everyone else. So an increase in rejections might have more to do with the number of Malaysians in the queue (we know who gets ultimate priority).
May well be 3.35 myr to the sgd, being the key driver.

SF, exactly why I highlighted it. You see the latest world ranking for NUS? Just look at the rating for S.E.Asia alone. Singapore has 4 in the top 20 universities, The Philippines only manages 2 (in the top 50. one of those is at #20.

Hi, this group has been tremendous help in reducing my anxiety, it is so heartening to see success stories here. May I also ask how my chances look?

Myself:
28yo Vietnamese
Bachelor degree from NUS, pursuing master degree from same school
13 yrs in SG
4 years work experience (healthcare industry)
EP @ 70k+ annual

Spouse:
28yo Singaporean
Race: other (Viet-origin)
PhD from NUS (consumer product industry)
Salary @ 80k+ annual

We moved in together for 4 years before getting married in 2021 Jan. No kids, living in rental. We submitted PR application for me (under spouse's sponsorship) 2021 Apr, so we've been waiting 17 months without news (we both changed jobs during this time and updated ICA accordingly).

We only know after reading on this forum that we should wait 2 years after marriage before applying. Not sure if the fact that we've been together (same address) for 4 years would help show that this is not a convenience marriage.

Thank you!
Just to update everyone that we recently received a favourable answer after almost 20 months waiting. The letter came more than 1 month after I submitted 6-month payslips of my new job (higher pay, more senior position), 2 weeks after we submitted intention to purchase a house. Thank you everyone for your advice here, really appreciate it.

Just want to say that this forum helped me get back to reality. Even though the data I collected from friends/colleague seems to be positive, I understand that approval is sill on a case-to-case basis.

My hope was on its peak recently when a friend (33M from Hong Kong, Chinese ethnicity) told me that he just got his PR approved last Thursday after 8 months of waiting (applied February 2022). He also mentioned that his colleague’s application (35M from Indonesia, Chinese ethnicity) got his PR approved also this October after 9 months of waiting (applied January 2022).

I’m still setting my expectation low, but not gonna lie, hearing this recent good news from someone you know makes you want to believe you also have a good chance (even if it’s not the case). Hoping for the best, expecting the worst!

LET'S GO!!!!
So the grinch came early: I got my rejection notice. :( Not gonna lie, it's a little devastating especially after 9 months wait. Would have preferred to get the rejection 4 to 6 months in. Not that I'm expecting a favourable response given the longer wait, I know it's not the case, but this bad news could have waited after the festive season. Lol. Anyway, it is what it is.

Providing some refresher/points about speculations regarding the process:

(1) Longer wait does not imply approval. [-X
Well this is a known fact, but leaving it here anyway.

(2) The wait time after upload button disappear and final status appear varies. There is no way to tell the status while playing around with the website (at least not the ICA links):

- Upload button disappeared 9 months and 2 days in, and got rejected status after another 4 days
- During the 4 days wait, clicking the enquire application status sometimes result to you being redirected to PR application page and there are few times when the link doesn't work at all
- There are 4 lines on my enquire status page but this has no bearing on the eventual result (as most already pointed out).

Looking at the bright side, I still get to work here in SG so there's that.

Good luck to all the hopefulls out there!

That's rough, unfortunately ICA doesn't care about your preferences/feelings. Will you be applying again?

Yeah agree, ICA is indifferent so such. Haha. If I need to put a positive spin I would say the longer wait may suggest there's some slight consideration vs being rejected at the 4th month of waiting.

I'll apply again in 2 years time if I'm still in SG.

Longer wait may be just because of Covid. So, please don't infer anything based on the longer waiting time.
