Hoping they'll have a Disneyland there..

As I recall, that proposal was already floated a long time ago, but Disney turned them down — they wouldn’t accept a deal unless it was totally private without the government having any involvement or ownership. Apparently that was a bridge too far. So no Disneyland, just the death penalty.

Yup, there was such a proposal a couple years ago. Pretty sure I saw a video about why SG will never have a Disneyland.
Re: Sentosa- Brani Master plan
Such a shame they won't even consider it. Just wondering what were the factors that weren't feasible.

I would be thrilled with just a good cycling track that circumnavigates Sentosa, connected with the southern rail corridor — that would be pretty awesome.

I go back far enough to have been here when LKY was still PM (in fact I was here for his last 6 years as the PM). I remember the stubbornness of the 'We WILL NOT ever have a casino in Singapore!" Let alone two of them. So, remember, when enough money talks, the government ears will perk up.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Mon, 18 Apr 2022 12:29 amYup, there was such a proposal a couple years ago. I have never stepped foot in a casino in Asia, and probably never will — too much of a gangster vibe. I’ve been to a few in Australia and Canada and the psychological elements are fascinating. No windows, no clocks, only flashing lights and constant noise — apparently the sound of winning, I am sure.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Mon, 18 Apr 2022 5:47 pmI go back far enough to have been here when LKY was still PM (in fact I was here for his last 6 years as the PM). For the rare times I’ve gone in, I limit myself to a small set amount and stick to it, limiting what I pay to be temporarily amused. Only twice have I walked out with more than I walked in with.
The most memorable was at the Sydney casino. I walked in with $40 and to my surprise, that could only buy me 2 chips! I started out betting behind my boss at the blackjack table, and after I thought he was on a winning streak I placed one chip and lost it! Down to my last chip, I again waited, and finally placed it down and won the other chip back. I continued after that and eventually ended up with a pretty large pile of chips. I was even betting up to $100 at a time and sitting on over $1000 in chips! As the winning streak died down we decided to cash in and I walked out with over $1000. That one night put me ahead, probably for the rest of my life because I’ve only ever lost a couple hundred bucks over my entire lifetime.

That’s how it starts, and before you know it, you’re hooked. Blackjack always gets me. I can never help but visit the casino while on a cruise… when you’re trapped out at sea, there’s not much else to do.malcontent wrote: ↑Mon, 18 Apr 2022 11:12 pmI have never stepped foot in a casino in Asia, and probably never will — too much of a gangster vibe. 2 main reasons: space constraints and disagreements over who should run/control the park.

You’re probably right, although if it happens, I doubt it will be so soon. Talks would take forever, and then there’s cleaning a big enough area and building the actual park. Maybe not for another 10-20 years.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Mon, 18 Apr 2022 5:47 pmI go back far enough to have been here when LKY was still PM (in fact I was here for his last 6 years as the PM). That would be pretty great, I have cycled Sentosa before but it would be nice if you could enter the island on a bike.malcontent wrote: ↑Mon, 18 Apr 2022 4:58 pmI would be thrilled with just a good cycling track that circumnavigates Sentosa, connected with the southern rail corridor — that would be pretty awesome.

Re: Sentosa- Brani Master plan
I watched a guy at the Crown casino in Melbourne walk up to a roulette table, purchase $1000 in chips, then lay them all down on a variety of bets then watched the little white ball go round and round. Not a single one of his bets paid off. Bye bye to $1000 in about 1 minute. Not my cup of tea.malcontent wrote: ↑Mon, 18 Apr 2022 11:12 pm

But, the real reason I won't play any games in a casino is the house advantage. Roulette, for example, American and Australian version, has a built in house advantage of 5.26 percent. You can't win. What the gamblers don't realize is that it is not the losers who keep the casinos in business, it is the winners.

Before they opened the casinos here they did a study and found that about 40% of the population here was susceptible to problem gambling. It seems like the measures taken to mitigate this have been more or less successful.Myasis Dragon wrote: ↑Tue, 19 Apr 2022 12:45 amBut, the real reason I won't play any games in a casino is the house advantage. I have no fear of getting hooked, my brain is wired differently. It is both a blessing and a curse… I almost never feel ecstatic in situations when most people would, but I almost never feel depressed either.

Perhaps you’re just very emotionally stable, maybe even a little numb? It is difficult to become addicted if you can’t experience the high.malcontent wrote: ↑Tue, 19 Apr 2022 11:01 amBefore they opened the casinos here they did a study and found that about 40% of the population here was susceptible to problem gambling.
