This is very interesting, I had always assumed most the governments take it personally when you decide to renounce citizenship, and won’t make the path to regaining it as easy. Are there any other countries that do this?
I heard that former Filipinos can get back their citizenship anytime. India also has a path to get back citizenship. For the USA, you just need an anchor baby.
Interesting, I never knew this!

The Philippines allows former citizens to reacquire their Filipino citizenship without renouncing the foreign citizenship.
Guess not all govts are as spiteful/calculative as SG. Although there's definitely a need on Singapore's end to mind the numbers.

So does a month or so without a response outlining a decision feel out of the ordinary ?
It's hard to tell, if you're feeling worried, you may want to reach out via email/call the hotline.

Thank you very much for the advice provided (particularly to Mad Scientist), the deferment pending renunciation at 21, has been approved. This is a great outcome and a huge relief.

My understanding of the remaining steps, would be:

-ensure he continues to not benefit from SG citizenship (including not applying for NRIC at 15, or for SG passport).

-register for NS at 16.5, which will result in exit permit being extended to 21.

-renounce SG Citizenship through Overseas embassy at age of 21.

-until renunciation is finalised, would it also be unwise to transit (flights) through Singapore ?

Thanks again
