At this point, I’m one of the only ones in my circle that hasn’t gotten it. Frankly I believe I must have gotten it at some point in the last 2 years but just may have been asymptomatic. I find it hard to believe that I’ve somehow scraped past getting infected every time.
Saw a comment online that someone’s whole family got covid except them so instead of them having to isolate he ended up having to isolate for the whole week, wasn’t able to leave his room at all. Luckily for you it’s the other way around.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Tue, 01 Mar 2022 3:01 pmMy helper currently is midway through her isolation here at home (both the wife & I are negative so far (from Saturday past). My Son in Law was down for 7 days up to this past Saturday. His helper tested positive yesterday. She also did the sanitation of the flat before the rest of the family returned to the home. They maintain two residences - one during the week and one on the weekends. (due to school location priorities - I'm sure, abbby, you know exactly what I'm referring too!)![]()
I’ve got a 3 bedroom condo and still feel claustrophobic. I feel like my parents ranch style home in the US (less than 1/10th of what this condo cost) is just about the perfect size, 1200sqft on top and a partially finished walk out basement of the same size below, plus an attached 2 car garage with a small workshop. Not to mention the setting, 3 acres of park like grounds with huge walnut trees.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Wed, 02 Mar 2022 1:28 pmActually, in my situation here and the layout of the flat after my two kids left home, I have ample space and already commandeered both of the kids bedrooms, and the attached balcony attached to one of the bedrooms both are at one end of the flat. I have flow through ventilation separate from the rest of the house as the balcony & BR (Now my office) has a door and window wall between the two and a separate sliding glass door at one end of the balcony into the Hall. The other BR has a single bed and a Body-Solid GS-1exercise machine, and the balcony is my wood-working shop. I literally have a mini apartment on one end of the flat (just no toilet facilities, but would use the common toilet off the kitchen & make it off limits to others. In fact, it's probably the safest place in the flat as it is officially my man-cave. (I have a 4 Bedroom HDB flat). So the helper has her own BR an my wife could continue to stay in the Master BR. I spend 98% of my time in my man cave so not a big deal for me. The only thing I would need is a mini-fridge and a small MW oven which I've often contemplated getting anyway.
That’s more like it !!!sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Wed, 02 Mar 2022 2:57 pmHey, Mal, I didn't say I didn't feel claustrophobic. I grew up on a dairy farm and had a farm that I lost 3 years ago. But it is what it is. I wish I could have afforded to stay in my old B&W in Seletar Camp at the end of Jln Kayu but sadly the rent I used to pay quadrupled to the point it was cheaper to buy a 5 RM flat on a 14 year mortgage than to stay there. What to do. The flat is kind of like living in a cellblock what with the bars/grills on the windows & doors. This is the first time I've ever lived in a place that didn't have a back door!!!!!!!
Seems I am woefully unprepared, no lozenges, throat spray or decongestants.Addadude wrote: ↑Wed, 02 Mar 2022 6:53 pmI'm working on the assumption that everyone in my household will test positive sooner rather than later so I've already stocked up on lozenges, throat spray, decongestants etc. If the dreaded 2 bars ever appear, I honestly see no point in going down to the GP and contributing to the queues unless things take a turn for the worst.
Wow, an HDB with a balcony, didn’t even know that was a thing. Is it one of those “condo-style” flats? Eg pinnacle@duxton. sounds like you’ve got a much better set up than I do, we live in a three bedder but knocked down the walls of the smallest room to make a bigger home office so it’s effectively a two bedder- so if one of us got Covid we wouldn’t really have much room to spare.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Wed, 02 Mar 2022 1:28 pmActually, in my situation here and the layout of the flat after my two kids left home, I have ample space and already commandeered both of the kids bedrooms, and the attached balcony attached to one of the bedrooms both are at one end of the flat. Same here. Even with the windows open and a forest view I still feel like the house is too small and claustrophobic, unfortunately housing here is far too expensive so it would be impractical to upsize.malcontent wrote: ↑Wed, 02 Mar 2022 2:13 pmI’ve got a 3 bedroom condo and still feel claustrophobic. That’s a really responsible approach, I was at the GP the other day for an ear infection and I haven’t seen it that crowded in ages. The clinic has had to start taking half hour breaks in the middle of the day just to get a break from all the patients, everyone is terribly overworked.Addadude wrote: ↑Wed, 02 Mar 2022 6:53 pmI'm working on the assumption that everyone in my household will test positive sooner rather than later so I've already stocked up on lozenges, throat spray, decongestants etc. If the dreaded 2 bars ever appear, I honestly see no point in going down to the GP and contributing to the queues unless things take a turn for the worst.
I highly recommend getting some lozenges and Panadol. I have a ton of Tylenol and aspirin left over from my last time in the US (I like to buy pills while I’m there because they are so much cheaper than singapore for some reason, and have every kind you could possibly imagine).malcontent wrote: ↑Wed, 02 Mar 2022 10:30 pmSeems I am woefully unprepared, no lozenges, throat spray or decongestants.Addadude wrote: ↑Wed, 02 Mar 2022 6:53 pmI'm working on the assumption that everyone in my household will test positive sooner rather than later so I've already stocked up on lozenges, throat spray, decongestants etc. If the dreaded 2 bars ever appear, I honestly see no point in going down to the GP and contributing to the queues unless things take a turn for the worst.
However, I do have a full bottle of NyQuil that I bought on my last trip to the US in 2019… that covers everything, including a sleep-aid which knocks me out — only problem, it’s almost expired.
We always hit the personal care aisle pretty hard… toiletries, supplements and OTC medicines of all kinds. We always pick up a tube of Neosporin, a tube of hydrocortisone, a multi-pack of dental floss, antacid tablets, aspirin (you can’t even find it here anymore, except overpriced low dose), lip balm (not for use here, but for overseas trips). I also get sleep aid tablets (for those early morning flights, so I can sleep early), plus NyQuil as I mentioned - it does it all when you’re sick. We also get a good amount of sunscreen - less than half the price. I’m not into supplements, but my wife picks up quite a few, including vitamins and fish oil, again half price or less - and in some cases, it’s better stuff. For me, I get just about every personal care item I use from the US, except toothbrushes, toothpaste and razor blades - those are equal quality and price here. Although we do pick up a few tubes of Crest sometimes, just for variety. The price of P&G shampoo here has gotten better, but TBH the quality from their factory in Thailand is just not quite as good.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Thu, 03 Mar 2022 1:25 amI highly recommend getting some lozenges and Panadol.
