[Help Needed] Preloved Children's Clothes. Yay or Nay?

Hi everyone,

I'm a new mum, and I find that infant's clothes are expensive and seldom worn. I am wondering if other new mums are willing to swap preloved children's clothes? It is a very sustainable way to reuse and recycle clothes that have only been worn once or twice.

I've bought new ones all along...never swopped clothes or took people's used clothes before. Maybe it's just the asian culture, we just buy off the shelves, it's easier.

What do you mean? Isn’t the whole idea that you pass on your clothes when they no longer fit? Or do you just mean you never got new clothes?

You’re very lucky then, not everyone has this privilege. I’ve been blessed as well to not really need to use hand me downs out of necessity, but rather by choice (still, 90% were first hand). When my daughter was younger she would get hand me downs from her older cousin in the US. Was nice because she was a pretty fashionable girl, saved me a lot of time shopping.

My mom is so frugal that she prides herself on wearing the same things for 30 or 40 years. Just stitches up any holes and it’s good as new in her opinion. It seems like a challenge to her almost, to see hour long she can make things last.

We’ve been enjoying hand-me-downs from my niece to both my girls.

Saves a lot of effort, only throw out when the elastic is broken, holes or very messy food stains.

Mainly buy Children’s clothing new if there is a discount or a real need, so we feel kind of bad the older one tends to get most of the new clothing. Young one not complaining much yet….

Honestly, if they’re in good condition it’s much more worth it to just use hand me downs. At the rate children grow, by the time you get them new clothes it’ll only be a couple months before they’ve already grown out of them.
