market analyst job

Postby SL » Sat, 02 Apr 2005 8:34 pm

Hi,

My partner is trying to get a job here, so that he can come over on an EP.
He's British but having worked in China and Japan before, speaks both languages to a good level.

He is currently a Market/ Research Analyst in media/publishing. (in the UK) (data-mining, predictive analysis, SPSS etc)
Has about over a year's experience.
How viable is it to get a similar job over here? With sponsorship of an EP?

We have looked for positions over the internet but it seems that market research/business analysts positions are few and far in between.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi,
JAC and ADECCO both have a number of japanese speaking positions.

Here is Adecco.
http://www.adecco-asia.com/japanese.htm

Here is JAC's Homepage
http://jac.jac.com.sg/Japan/index.php

I would also recommend tempstaff and pasona
http://www.tempstaff.com.sg/
http://www.pasona.com.sg/jp/index.asp

If possible, face to face meetings with the recruiters will get you further.

I would also recommend that you do not travel to Singapore in November
in the hope of job intereview - The end of year period is when the bonus is paid and few people leave their jobs after.
After Chinese New Year is a good time.

As far as I know, both Adecco and JAC have a position available as a market analyst with a global media company. At least they did last month.

Try doing the online applications, and follow up with emails, and then actually meet them if possible.

I didn't get too far over the internet, but had a lot of success when I actually travelled out to Singapore. Contact the recruiters before hand, and try to get them to have interviews lined up for you when you arrive.

Hope this helps.

Hi there Numenor,

Thanks for the advice.
Most of our applications have been online ones, we have also looked at the sites that you recommended.

I'm just wondering if it is worth getting my partner to come over on a 3month pass to go round the agencies. (He still has his job to do in the UK)

Up to the present, we've registered online with most of the major agencies based in Singapore, but have had no luck yet so far.

Still, do appreciate you taking time to respond and the advice offered.
Thanks!
