Are we seeing less cinemas in the future?

Post by abbby » Wed, 19 Jan 2022 10:31 am

With the ongoing pandemic and streaming competition, are we going to see less cinemas in the future..? I certainly hope the bigger players can hold up.

Hope so too, as much as I appreciate the convenience of streaming, it will never replace the experience and ambience of going to the cinema. The smell of the fresh (overpriced) popcorn, the chatter from other excited moviegoers, the plush seats all add to the experience.

I prefer going to cinema then steaming.
I dont hv that cinema sound system setup at home.
Volume too soft. No kick
Volume too loud. I might wake up a sleeping baby.

Ah yes... the soothing sounds of mastication, crunching crisps and loud straw sucking, constant chatter, live commentary, coughing, sneezing and clearing of throats, late comers squeezing past you and usually tripping over you... grimy seat upholstery that contains deep deposits of weeks-old popcorn and spilled drinks.

Not to mention the comforting glow from the phones of people around you, and the harmonious blending of ring tones and notification sounds with the movie soundtrack.

Makes a big difference especially when you’re watching action movies, makes it so much more immersive.

Hey hey hey, its all part of the experience. I certainly can’t replicate it at home.

I don’t know what kind of cinema you’ve been going to, luckily I have had better luck at the movies.

They’re always going to be making new movies, the question is whether or not they will continue to be released through conventional channels (cinemas) or move online (streaming services).

I still like going to cinemas for action/adventure movies. The atmosphere is better. But I have only watched 2 movies in cinemas last year.

Same here. The surround sound effect is irreplaceable, especially for action movies.

Recently caught Spiderman at the theater, the atmosphere was something that could not be replicated at home. All the Spider-Man fans wearing their themed masks, shirts, costumes, the excitement didn’t stop from when the movie started rolling to the post-credits scene.
