Internship opportunities for 18 year old
My daughter just graduated RI a month ago and is looking to spend her post A level period (8 months) doing an internship. She hopes to intern at a media company, ideally doing some sort of writing or creative work, but isn’t too sure about where to get info on open positions. Wondering if anyone has any info about openings or where to find out? Would also be great if anyone knew what the “market rate” for such a position is (most internship positions advertise the pay as market rate but not sure what exactly that means).
Re: Internship opportunities for 18 year old
$1000 a month if she is lucky.
I would try all of the MNCs and look for communication and social media positions - they seem to be open to hiring younger people who know IG, FB, SC etc and how to get clicks and likes. This is the door that my niece in Australia used to get into a similar position now in a top notch Aussie hospital.

I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Re: Internship opportunities for 18 year old
I see. The one local media company she applied to so far is offering 700-1000 a month, “depending on qualifications” but since she’s a fresh high school grad I’m pretty sure she’ll be in the 700s range if she gets the position. Any MNCs you’d recommend? She’s got the time to do her research but the one thing that can’t really be discerned online is workplace culture. Ideally she’d want to be somewhere pretty liberal and inviting, she’s not interested in office politics.PNGMK wrote: ↑Tue, 28 Dec 2021 10:44 am$1000 a month if she is lucky.

The big European and American ones. Grab a list of the Fortune 500 and work through them (sort by industry that she is interested in). I know the ones I've been in all run internships. The good thing about the big MNC's is they won't tolerate BS like sexual harassment.

Not just that, the HR in general seems to be serious and comprehensive. I wouldn’t be too worried about having her work for one of the big guys, my only concern is that she would be pushed aside to make copies and coffees rather than being hands on like with a smaller firm that needs the help.PNGMK wrote: ↑Tue, 28 Dec 2021 11:44 pmThe big European and American ones. No the days of copies and coffees are long gone in large MNC's. There may be an old aunty in the pantry but really no one budgets for people to do that anymore. Some companies that come to mind:
GE
Proctor and Gamble (P&G)
Siemens
Schneider
Pratt & Whitney
Baker Hughes
a quick search finds more:
Bosch – A German-based company specializing in the automotive technology industry, industrial and building technology and consumer goods.
Bayer AG – A German-based company specializing in pharmaceuticals and chemicals
Deutsche Post DHL – A German-based courier services company
CIC – A French-based financial services company
Actavis – A US-based pharmaceuticals company
Rakuten – A Japanese-based e-commerce company
Sony Corporation – A Japanese-based consumer electronics, gaming, entertainment and financial services company
Panasonic – A Japanese-based electronics company
Bridgestone – A Japanese-based automotive and tire manufacturer
Philips – A Netherlands-based consumer electronics, healthcare and lighting company
Unilever – A Netherlands/United Kingdom-based consumer goods company
Xero – A New Zealand-based cloud-based accounting software for SMEs
Roche – A Switzerland-based high-end software and security engineering company
Novartis – A Switzerland-based pharmaceuticals company
Microsoft & Apple – Two US-based consumer electronics and computer software and services company
Google – A US-based internet-related services provider
Pfizer – A US-based pharmaceuticals company

Re: Internship opportunities for 18 year old
Wow, this is really helpful, thank you so much PNGMK! I’ll share this with her. As far as MNCs go, she’s only looked into google so far and unfortunately they don’t have any non-tech/data analytics positions available in SG for the time being. Will give the others a good look.PNGMK wrote: ↑Wed, 29 Dec 2021 12:08 amNo the days of copies and coffees are long gone in large MNC's. My better half has place for 1-2 interns in a European MNC. It's in Comms department. Usually their have kids from local Poly, but it's not a requirement. If interested pm and can share the contact.

She’s been offered a writing position at a local media firm, although she has yet to accept the offer. If you could PM with details pertaining to job scope and other requirements that would be greatly appreciated.ProvenPracticalFlexible wrote: ↑Tue, 18 Jan 2022 9:57 pmDid she find something yet?
