Yes this will sound like trolling, but there seems very little art of any kind in Singapore. Probably because the government has never encouraged it and many of its policies discourage creativity and original thought. On the other hand, pursuit of money, food and frivolous internet entertainment keeps everyone's attention focused elsewhere.

Not trolling at all, you’re absolutely right. The government has made its focuses clear- the lack of funding for the arts tells you all you need to know.

Look for local artists at galleries, art shows, cafes, online marketplaces, and artist guilds. Follow them on social media for updates.

I've also found garage sales to be a good way to find hidden gems. These are rare but rewarding. Carousell is also a great option.

Depends! Garage sales for unique finds, Carousell for wider selection & browsing ease.

Carousell also leads the way in con jobs and rip offs. Stay away unless you are a "real" expert when it comes to arts and antiquities (or anything else for that matter just for the safety of any purchases, not whether they are authentic or not.

@stencilloart

Just to let you know, I know. And the very first whiff of a bid to flog your product as either an employer/employee or reseller, etc. via this forum or via DM to any of our members, when I find out, it will, as well as your account and posts, be deleted. Capisce? [-X

The best thing to do is to visit local exhibitions to get a sense of which artists' work you appreciate, then look them up and purchase from them directly. They are often open to commissions and tend to price their work lower as they don't have to hand a cut to a middleman.

I used to learn painting at the studio opposite plaza singapura and Istana, the glass building. the artist who operate the studio Chankerk has a unique painting style and his painting of Singapore building and landscape is in his own style.
