Switching job while pending for PR application

Post by potatoinsg » Fri, 01 Oct 2021 4:56 pm

Hi everyone,

Hope you are doing well and staying safe and healthy.

I have a few questions regarding switching jobs while my PR application is still pending. If anyone has similar experience or know someone with the similar experience, I would like to know how your experience went.

My background story
I studied in local tertiary education for 6 years. Then, I work as an engineer in construction and earn around 30k + AWS + bonus for my first job out of university. After 7 months of working at my first job, I applied for PR around June 2021. Recently, I got an offer from another engineering company with a better package and 50% increment in salary (around 50k + benefits). I took on that offer and got my EP approved.

My questions are:
1) How do I inform ICA for me to update on my application as I got a new pass? Do I just call them up or email?

2) Do I have to request new Annex A from the new employer as well since I have changed a job?

3) What do you think about my chance of getting PR with my background? Would it increase significantly cause of the change or should I just leave the application in this way?

Please advise me if you know what documents would be required and what steps did you take when you encountered this.

1) Get your new pass issued first after cancelling your old pass, then inform them by email with the details of your new job (Company name, location and basic pay).

2) You'll have to ask ICA about this via email, to save time you can do it in the same email telling them you are at a new company. If you get approved though, the ICA officer might ask you whether there is any change in employment when you complete your formalities (They did for me even though I didn't change employers) so perhaps you might need it, but ask them to make sure.

3) Seems quite likely since you have studied here for a period of time which to ICA shows that you have culturally integrated. You have not mentioned your nationality/ethnicity but if you are of Malaysian-Chinese/Indonesian-Chinese origin (Especially the former), it is guaranteed to be approved unless you have some criminal record or something. Otherwise it's still likely, just not guaranteed. IMO, you should not leave the application this way, going from 30K to 50K a year is a significant increase in salary and nobody in their right mind would pass that up; ICA cannot reasonably fault you for changing jobs in this situation.

Thanks for your advice. Much appreciated! I will follow the steps you've mentioned here to follow up with my application. :D

I am not Malaysian-Chinese or Indonesian-Chinese even though I can speak Chinese perfectly well due to my environment. I belong to "Others" as I am an ethnic minority from a South East Asian Country. I am also not sure about my chance of getting PR as I can't prove my Chinese origin on paper.
