Husband hates driving in the snow. He had to scrape off frost & snow off his windshield every morning, wait for the car to warm up, then drive off. He likes playing in the snow though, just not driving. Heh.

Has anyone heard about this 10 year LTR visa that Thailand rolled out last month? They have some high obstacles for certain categories, but for retirees (anyone 50 and above) it’s actually quite easy. As long as you can prove you’ve made at least US$80k over the past two years on the date you apply, there doesn’t appear to be any other major financial requirements - nothing to deposit or invest, no other income to prove… just health insurance that covers at least US$50k and pay the B50k (US$1,300) application fee - - that seems to be it. You can get an initial 5 years that is extendable for another 5.
Just a thought, what about retirees who haven't been working and thus have no income?
Then you can deposit B800k (S$30k) in a Thai bank and get an O-A visa for a year at a time.
If someone succeeds in provoking you, realize that your mind is complicit in the provocation - Epictetus

New visa in Bali for foreigners to live there for up to 10 years. Provided you have cash to spare.

Eek, have you lived somewhere that gets snow?
And yes, snow is great fun, one of my regrets is not taking my to daughter experience snow when she was younger. She is turning 19 and has never seen snow, despite being to plenty of places that get a ton each winter. Each time, we miss the window narrowly.

Never stayed anywhere with snow, husband was just recounting his experience with 4 seasons.
I did experience snow-less Australian winters though. Saw one week old snow on the streets in Beijing which was ugh. Never experienced thick coats of fresh snow falling from the sky, only encountered an extremely light dusting of super tiny snowflakes in US spring time that lasted for a day. The tiny snowflakes melted almost immediately upon touching the car that I didn’t noticed till husband pointed it out to me.
My in-laws discourage us from visiting during winter ‘cos it’s cold and I may not be used to it and tickets are more ex in Nov & Dec. I should just experience it once and probably swear off it, who knows.
They did say in the past few years, they’ve not been getting snow in winter at all and get them randomly close to spring sometimes.

And remember to plug car in before going to bed or good luck next morning. I remember someone from a warm climate seeing the extension cables trailing across the yard and commenting "Wow you have electric cars!" This was in the 80s.

Husband’s parents moved to the South decades ago ‘cos it’s supposedly cheaper and MIL found jobs she liked. Which is very odd considering they are pretty liberal. My MIL was in her small town’s clinic for a regular checkup in 2020 and had to deal with the clinic’s nurse who was very unhappy about the mask wearing. You would think someone in healthcare would understand but… *shrug*
Snow in the South is not guaranteed in winter, I suppose. They’ve never lived in cities at all so hubby is sometimes not used to city life in SG. We do hiking trails every now and then ‘cos he misses nature.

Yes, it's always good to spend some money on a decent battery but things like this may happen. A week or so with temperatures below -20C combined with short commuting distance would kill most of the batteries.
Having said that I am probably one of the very few who really misses frosty winters (and other seasons) and not so much appreciates heat and humidity of Singapore. In that respect I am probably in a wrong place.

Alberta, Canada right? Not MN I'm assuming.

Snow is so rare in the South. In Miami, the most "winter" you'll get is a bit of a chill at night.
If you're into hiking, I suggest the Clementi Park trail.

Same here. I run hot - always have. And the humidity does terrible things to my hair, when I'm overseas, I feel like I've never looked better.

Yes Alberta is still part of Canada, last I checked. Unless the US has designs on their oil?
