Hello,
I’m trying to fill up the offline pdf form and don’t know what to enter in the race field. “Other” is not available. Should I leave it blank? Or am I missing something?
Principal applicant is Filipino.

Other is not a race.
Technically, Filipino is not a race either (no more than American is a race).
Malay race used to be accepted for Filipinos; technically, it is correct. But that fact has apparently not been well accepted by Malays here.

My husband, who is the main applicant is 25% chinese. His mom is half Chinese, half Filipino. Can he count as Chinese? But I’m not sure how to prove.

pogster is in the same boat as you, being a Filipino who is a quarter Chinese…

Apparently the authorities did ask for proof, so at least they did “bite” - but also had the same problem as you in terms of weak evidence. In the end, his PR application was rejected. You can search his posts.

Then maybe we won’t use Chinese race coz anyway he’s 75% non-chinese.
If we put Malay, will ICA reject our application? Or will they ask for evidence for being Malay?

What race are we considered if not Malay?

If it were me, I would probably put Filipino, and Filipino-Chinese for your husband.
They might ask for proof of Chinese ancestry. If they do and you don’t have any evidence, private genetic testing for ancestry is something you can consider.

Ahhh I thought you said Filipino as a race is not accepted. Ok I’ll probably use it! Thanks for your input!

Even though Filipino technically is not a race, it seems to be commonly understood and accepted as a race here.
Sort of how Caucasian is used for those who are not from the Caucasus, and Eurasian is used for those who are not from the Eurasian Steppe. Go figure.
