Need help on MOM marriage approval

Post by mokykote » Tue, 24 Aug 2021 9:39 pm

Hi everyone,

I am WP in Singapore and my gf is SPR. We have been relationship since 2010 and planned to get married a long time ago. The problem is we both weren't aware that we need to get approval from MOM before we register our marriage in Singapore or outside of Singapore but which we did already in my country. In this case, if I try to get approval from MOM, will it be rejected since we did not comply with the law?

No idea, but we know what happens if you don't. If you try you might not get approved or you might. If you don't try, guarantee you won't!
Your choice.

Pretend that the marriage in the other country never happened, apply for permission to get married here, see how it goes… right?

Thank you for your reply.

Okay. Sure I will not know until I try but just wanna make it clear first. that's why ask for advice from this forum. Anyway, one more question is I found this article from MOM.
I am not sure whether I understand it right or not.

-> 6. The foreign employee shall not go through any form of marriage or apply to
marry under any law, religion, custom or usage with a Singapore citizen or
permanent resident in or outside Singapore, without the prior approval of the
Controller, while the foreign employee holds a work permit, and also after the
foreign employee’s work permit has expired or has been canceled or revoked.
(I attached the screenshot)

The sentence says that "usage with a SC or SPR"
So it's meaning that my gf actually use her nationality but didn't use SPR to register marriage in my country so we didn't break any law?

P.S To be honest, I know I can find the right answer from MOM but I am scared that since I need to key in my FIN number when I make a call with MOM

Thank you.

It means regardless of what she used, if she ever was one of the above, then the law applies to her. It's really not that difficult to understand.

Do a search of the archives here about my nephew and the little girl who has been living with me since she was 1 year old (she's now almost 15). It's what can happen when you marry without approval if one was EVER on a WP.
