Exactly, although it’s not exactly fair to say China created the virus.
Yes, I don't think we'll ever know for sure, but the evidence points strongly towards a US-funded lab experiment gone wrong. In case you haven't read it: https://thebulletin.org/2021/05/the-ori ... -at-wuhan/
I’ve never heard of such a conspiracy, I’ll give it a read. Seems pretty far fetched though.
That is like saying the US funded Osama… it is clearly twisting reality, but sometimes the road to h*** is paved with good intentions and hindsight is 20/20. The US should probably cut many of it’s well intentioned funding schemes around the world, who knows what kind of blowback will come next.

Truth can be stranger than fiction. There's a lot to take in, including some heavy science.

Check the creds of the article's author, and those of the papers he references. There's no agenda at all, just facts as they are known at this time.

If you're looking for a nice simple black and white answer here, I'm afraid you won't find it. If however you want to carefully read the article and all its references, you will hopefully have enough information to make your own judgement.

To be clear I'm not saying I know for sure what happened. I just think the "came from bats" theory looks less likely than the "made in lab" theory. I'm not alone here. But everyone should weigh the evidence themselves.

The lab origin theory seems more plausible - after all, they had the bat coronaviruses on hand.

Whether “gain of function” was involved - it does not matter… NOTHING should escape from a lab. If it did in this instance, the world needs to know so that lessons can be learned and we have a better chance at preventing this from ever happening again.

Bats have been known to be disease carriers for ages, it’s not crazy to think that they could be the origin of the virus.

And every time a virus has passed from bats to humans, an intermediate host species was found - within 4 months for SARS, 9 months for MERS. Yet after all this time, no such thing has been found for COVID - not for lack of trying.

The most similar bat virus to COVID was found in a cave 1500 miles away from Wuhan. Bats can't fly that far. Meanwhile the very first human cases of COVID had never visited the wet market from where the virus is supposed to have originated, and bats were not even being sold there at the time.

Another good article about this, but very science dense: https://yurideigin.medium.com/lab-made- ... 6dd7413748

Seems like pretty strong evidence actually, just really crazy to think about.

BBCDoc told me (and is qualified to say) that he thinks it is most likely an accidental bat to human transmission. Why they were freak around with bats was not answered. He says similarly with HIV, primate to human most likely during a slaughter. I hope I've not misquoted him.

My view is that it is easy to see how quick viruses adapt and evolve in wild hosts but a bit harder to engineer it even with use of gain of function techniques in a lab.

I'd like to think I'm not naive but I doubt we'll ever have complete certainty.

For me it’s simple. Was it a seafood market that doesn’t sell bats, or the lab down the road that has the actual bat coronavirus, works with that virus to try and prevent a pandemic and was called out 2 years prior for not having sufficient controls in place? Also, why Wuhan? This can’t be the only market getting supplies from Southern China (which is where this bat originates). There just seems to be a lot of circumstantial clues that point to the lab.

If this is true, one would expect COVID to be infectious to bats, but it's not.

I don't know what you mean by "infectious" but there are plenty of diseases that are asymptomatic in once host, deadly in another.
