As well as the sinophiles there's also the tinfoil hat brigade that think mRNA vaccines are a sinister plot to modify everyone's genetics, well at least those that haven't disappeared down the rabbithole (or up their own orifices) so far to believe the whole pandemic is fake or "just the flu".

Re: How to get Sinovac?
My thoughts exactly. If the government had any interest in approving Sinovac, they would have done so ages ago. Clearly the preference is for those with higher efficacy rates (Pfizer and moderna).BigginHill wrote: ↑Fri, 18 Jun 2021 1:37 pmWHO EUL approval is a pretty low bar, though.MOCHS wrote: ↑Wed, 16 Jun 2021 6:53 amThe article already states that Sinovac got approved by the WHO for emergency use so MOH will be releasing guidelines for it in the near future.
Stop thinking/saying that the government is “not approving” Sinovac. They are still reviewing the data and that takes time.
The government is absolutely not keen on approving Sinovac. Otherwise they would have done it 4 months ago, long before the vaccination campaign kicked into high gear.
There's a pretty strong hint on OYK's FB page - the minister of health himself circulated a JP Morgan report on Sinopharm (not Sinovac) a few days ago & felt compelled to highlight this particular graphic:
vaccine.JPG
Looks to me like they're going all-out for max efficacy to reach population immunity ASAP, and so far mRNA vaccines shows the best results. So that's what they're using.
If Sinovac is able to reach people who'd just flat out refuse any non-Chinese vaccine, or people who simply can't use mRNA vaccines for medical reasons, that's certainly beneficial though.
With 200,000 doses available, that'd be around 2% of total population.

Probably.smoulder wrote: ↑Fri, 18 Jun 2021 4:00 pmBecause they are Sinophiles and there's no greater way to feel intense pride and racial superiority than a vaccine made in China?x9200 wrote: ↑Fri, 18 Jun 2021 3:37 pmReally? Why do they prefer Sinovac actually, and why 2 PRs only ?sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Fri, 18 Jun 2021 12:47 pm
I reckon it's all the Sinophiles that are in the population. There are a heck of a lot of them if a local fb group I'm in (7K members with only 2 PRs in the group) is any indication.![]()

Wow everyone has become an armchair scientist and medical professional in this topic. Well done. /sarcasm
You all aren’t scientists and I take your words with a grain of salt. You guys clearly don’t know anything on how clinical trials or reviewing scientific data works. You guys keep pooping on Sinovac on the grounds of “the government did not approve it yet so it’s crap”.
Pfizer and Moderna had their papers published in Dec 2020. Sinovac only got published in Feb 2021. A lot can happen in two months.
The government requested additional data from Sinovac in Mar 2021. Plus Sinovac’s data was published after Phase II clinical trials. Usually drugs are out in the market after Phase III. Maybe Sinovac has more data for Phase III, who knows?
OYK only posted one figure, not two. There could be other variables involved that was not explained by JP Morgan. Plus the report isn’t entirely comprehensive, more of a summary so I would rather have the full data before drawing conclusions instead of jumping onto the hype train and being stuck in my own echo chamber just to collect post counts for the sake of it.
I’m not being pro-Pfizer/Moderna or pro-Sinovac here. I’m being pro-vaccination. Having protection is better than none but you guys are just shaming people for taking Sinovac on the grounds of being sinophiles. And your harsh criticism might draw people away from taking the vaccination and they’ll go down some other rabbit hole and refuse vaccinations altogether maybe. Jeez.

Re: How to get Sinovac?
Unfortunately the issues with Sinovac are becoming apparent now in Guangzhou and Indonesia. I wish it weren't true. I'm sure BBC DOC can explain why a killed virus vaccine is less effective than a recombinant or MRNA version though.

Re: How to get Sinovac?
My understanding is that for individuals who have allergic reactions to mrna vaccines, Sinovac is a better option than nothing at all.

As an RC/PA member and in the over 70 crowd I was in the early batch of vaxxers (Feb/Mar). I was specifically targeted for early vaccination due to my long association with the PA and the ability to show resident seniors that there is not any danger. Those in the senior category have 30,000 not yet vaccinated today. A high percentage of them, regardless of an RC overweighted with older chinese members still cannot get it into the sinophile's heads that it's necessary for the elderly to get vaccinated early. It's also the same opinion of our PA leaders as to while the senior of both the Pioneer & Merdeka generations are reluctant to get the pfizer/moderna but want to wait for the Chinese version. They will tell you outright that they are pro-china. It's not kopishop rumour but first hand door to door canvassing that is providing this data. Nothing armchair about it.

If you have a heart problem, you’ll go to a cardiologist and not an urologist, right?
Not all MDs have PhDs. I would trust an infectious disease specialist more than a generic MD. Some may not truly understand scientific data which caused the “petition by 11 doctors against mRNA vaccines” hoohaa. I’m in the scientific research field and have interacted with clinician scientist wannabes (aka MDs that want to do scientific research). A lot of them really don’t understand the basis of research in general. However, I am satisfied with how the ministers on the multi-ministry task force have answered queries so far during press conference.
You link a news article but I want hardcore scientific data. Until then, I won’t throw out Sinovac just yet till more evidence surfaces.

From a position of pure pragmatism, it would make no sense to go out of your way and pay for something that is more accessible and free.MOCHS wrote: ↑Mon, 21 Jun 2021 7:24 amWow everyone has become an armchair scientist and medical professional in this topic. Well done. /sarcasm

True. I’d be interested to hear an explanation why, but I probably wouldn’t be able to make much sense of it.
