PEP vs ICA LTVP

Post by redblimp » Mon, 31 May 2021 8:18 pm

I am a foreigner in Singapore holding a PEP who is recently married to a Singapore PR. My PEP is expiring soon and I am wondering if it makes sense to apply for a ICA LTVP instead of another EP. My wife and I are both relatively high earners (both >15K per month). I understand from other posts that typically one must wait roughly 2 years after marriage before having a good chance of getting a PR.

Some questions:
- Any views on the pros/cons of the ICA LTVP vs another EP?
- Does my current employer have to apply for the PLOC or is it down to me privately?
- Does the PLOC limit me to one employer only - e.g. if I want change jobs?

Thanks in advance!

Your second and third questions can easily be answered on MOM...

The first question can also be found using the search bar in the forum. Short answer is if you’re on an expat package, stay on EP or you’ll lose it when you convert to LTVP.

MOCHS, he is currently on a PEP but it's expiring so he's asking if he should return to the EP or go the PLOC route. If he is on a PEP, it is currently unknown if he's on a full expat package, but I'm guessing not. If that's the case, it's doubtful he will be offered one if he returns to EP.

My bad, the MOM website for PEP gave me the impression that PEP is some sort of “diamond tier” EP since one of the eligibility states one should be on an EP before qualifying for PEP. Did not realise it cannot be renewed.

In it's original inception it was given for 5 years, not 3. Sadly it was and still is being abused by a certain nationality. This is the reason why it's not renewable. In it's original form it was to be a stepping stone to PR and SGC however, most used it only for a 3 years visa and with the protection of having up to six months unemployment between positions without having to leave Singapore. After two or three years the duration was reduced to 3 years but still non-renewable. The EP guidelines were for people working here already as it was also available to anybody wanting to come here provided they could prove their income was above 18K/month SGD (Not the reduced 12K/mo entry wage given to EP holders). In anycase, you just missed a link when on the MOM site.....
