No. You will need the doctor to prescribe first

Exactly. Don’t even bother taking medication without a prescription, it won’t end well. See your doctor and have him write up a prescription.

Cholesterol drop by diet without medication is quite doable. Unless you are really in a situation with extremely high levels and have other risk group pointers, but in that case even more this should be a discussion with a specialist doctor not self medication.
I just dropped my HDL aka bad cholesterol levels from 3.6 to 2.9 and total from 5.8 to 4.9 in 5 weeks. It's not perfect levels yet, but pretty good impact in short time. Wanted to try how easily can impact with diet after I got my elevated results during health screening in March. With a pretty simple diet change. Nothing magical in it, just 4 days a week mostly vegetarian diet, once in a while fish, and no butter, no beacon and no eggs, no prawns, and no lobster (ok there was some sacrifices made). Weekends a bit more relaxed with occasional meat. Dropped also 4 kilos from waistline, which was a welcomed side effect too. That was probably more due to dropping wine out of diet from weekdays too.

When I finished my diet 13 years ago, I was on lovastatin for around 10 years. after my diet finished, both my LDL & HDL were in optimum ranges. Doc discontinued my meds until around 2 years ago, when my weight started going up again due to slipping in my dietary regime. It can be controlled with dietary measures alone (which includes weight loss if you are overweight). I getting ready to 'clean up my act' again as the first two years of retirement coupled with a year+ of covid overlap has played merry hell with my weight.

Yes covid lock down and staying home, watching Netflix every night with glasses (not for eyesight) was bad for my weight and seems cholesterol too.

Spot on. with virtually the exact same problem and the fact that at 73 I'm just not as active as I was at 60 and still working.
