Obtaining Citizenship without spouse

Post by Moonrays84 » Sun, 14 Mar 2021 11:56 am

Hi,
My husband and i have been in singapore for 14 years and we have been PR for 11 years. Both our sons (8 and 5 years old now) are born in SG and are in local education system. I used to work prior to having my 1st son and afterwards been a full time mom. Therefore my husband is the main income for the family.
We have no intention of moving back to our country of origin, Sri Lanka. We have brought our own house as well 5 years ago. Therefore i would like to convert to citizen. But my husband wouldn't want to due to his personal reasons. But wouldn't mind rest of us converting. He would like to remain PR as long as possible.

1- Is there a possibility of getting the citizenship if i apply for myself and my 2 sons only?
2- or, Would i have to be employed for a period of time before applying so that it proves my economic viability as my husband won't be the main applicant?

Appreciate your views and advice on this.

Thank you for the reply. I am concerned about me not working and therefore will hinder my chances.

You might have a bit of a problem as you doesn't have a job so therefore would need an anchor SGC in order to apply for SGC. As the husband is only a PR, I don't believe he could act as an anchor as he is not SGC so can give up his PR on any given day and you would be left without support. I don't see it happening.

That would help. What is your husband's reason for not wanting SGC? I have neighbours also from Ceylon in a similar situation but with a young son hence their reason (not wanting him to do NS although the little snotbrain could really do with it).
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

He wishes to return to sri lanka once he retires. Which is about 20 years away. Since our kids will continue here with NS as we are already pr, i would like to have the option of being here with them. We have no problem them going to NS.
