Singapore EP or Australia PR or Singapore PR

Post by anujhbaggha » Wed, 10 Mar 2021 12:00 pm

Folks, I wanted your ideas/suggestion on a rather complicated situation.

I've been living here in Singapore on an EP with my wife and 2 kids. We are comfortable and all is good, have been here for 6 years, but that human need of stability is now seeping in :D

1.5 years ago I applied and got Australia PR (which gives me rights to live, work, study, buy home, free schooling for children, medicare, etc). I am excited about it but of course I know Singapore better. Hence, I have made my 3rd PR application and thinking of moving on to Oz if the result is negative.

If any of you here is from Australia, or has been through a similar situation, or anyone who has inputs, can you please share your ideas? Would be glad to hear those. :???:

A lot of Indians move to Australia and settle in well. The quality of life is pretty good. Also the country is going to ride another economic boom for a good ten or twenty years.

Unless you're extremely well paid here (20k per month or more) there is no comparison.

An EP here is no guarantee of anything.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Nailed it with your response. I am very close to that number and not sure if those salaries/opportunities will be equally available there. Frankly, career and average salaries are my biggest skepticism.

I'm on a similar package (as an Aussie) and I left a deal worth 50% more or so to move to Singapore. There were personal reasons but what I have found is that I can save far more here. Perhaps think of early retirement as being leaving the corp world and moving to where we want to be as a goal - that's what we do.

Ah great to know you are an Aussie! Totally respect your reasons. The reasons I want to move are:
Own house instead of rent
Kids education covered instead of that hefty international fees.
Settling in for long.
What do you say?

Caveat: for minorities in either.

If you have an exorbitant stash of money and income, Singapore. It’s always been known to be the playground for the rich.

Otherwise, Australia trumps.

I have no experience with immigrating to Australia but have some acquaintances who did. They are typically doing well.

Australia has the advantage of a clear path from non-immigrant status to PR to citizenship. It also provides free (or almost free) public healthcare and affordable university fees (even for PRs). It is a huge place giving you a lot of options of where to settle depending on your preference.
The disadvantage is that the taxes are much higher and for some professionals, there is an initial difficulty of getting professional level jobs. Local employers look for "Australian experience" before hiring forcing many new immigrants to accept jobs considered to be beneath their level of qualifications. If you are coming to Australia with a professional level job lined up, then immigrating to Australia is a no-brainer.

If a higher net worth is important to you, Singapore may be a better place for you but Australia provides more stability for families.

You'd be better off in the USA (15 times the people and hence a much larger set of opportunities) but Australia / Canada are a close second. Don't go to NZ (too small an economy). All of those items are certainly possible in Australia.
