Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Singapore

Hi guys, me and my wife are new to Singapore. I am on EP and she is on DP.
She is now 6th weeks pregnant and we are thinking of delivering the baby in Singapore, itself, due to the current situation of COVID.
Could any of you suggest us which hospitals should we go to for the checks and the actual delivery ?
We live near Bencoolen so KKH is closer to us but we are getting confused with the different doctors over there.

Frankly any hospital in Singapore is good. Ideally KKH is the better bet as the whole hospital is a Women's & Children's hospital. However, if you want hotel style upmarket address types be prepared to pay for it and make sure you know how much your insurance will pay before you commit. My son and daughter were born in KKH (not the one where it is now, but the old one behind Tekka Market 30 over years ago). However, my daughter has elected to have both of my grandsons in Mt. Alvernia and she loved it. For a general reference on costs......

It mainly depends on where your gynae usually operates.

My first child. Mt Alvernia. Non profit private hospital. Was decent.

My 2nd was delivered at Mt Elizabeth Novena.
Like a 5 star hotel. Likewise the cost.

Most gynaes in Singapore who are based in private hospitals also spend a certain amount of time in Government hospitals as well. Good example was my wife gynae the first pregnancy. Probably the most famous Gynae to ever be in Singapore. Took care of my wife through KKH. Father & Son Heart specialists in Mt. E took care of my wife when she had her heart attack and later a stent inserted (both times in TTSH). If I can get the best doctors without paying the premium for ambience why not. (I don't go to high-end restaurants for the same reason - I'm going out to eat, not sight-seeing what I want to see is usually sitting across from or beside me). But then again, I'm just an old coot!

TL; DR - go to KKH. It's government, everything will cost less, even for non-citizens/PR's (maybe 10-20% less), and the private hospitals lean on KKH anyway when things get complicated.

Hope this isn't too late, but note that most insurance plans will not cover delivery beyond a nominal amount, say $20K. If your delivery is uncomplicated/normal, this won't be a problem, but there are extreme scenarios where a delivery costs $300-500K (e.g. baby born 3 months premature and has to spend 100+ days in the NICU).

Also: (my wife and I had our baby at Raffles) we were advised that if there were any neonatal complications, they would move our baby to KKH. Another fun fact: when baby needed a Covid swab, we needed to go to KKH because Raffles doesn't do Covid swabs for infants.

We used Dr. Wong from ACJ based at Mt. Alvernia, although we delivered in Thomson.

Expected cost was to be around $20K, although this ended up being far more owing to a long stay in ICU.

It was expensive, but by that point there wasn’t any money in the world that we wouldn’t have spent to see him safely through.
