Noticed that as well, however it appears that post has since been deleted. Not sure if it was deleted by the admin’s or the poster though. However, if I am to give the benefit of the doubt and assume the question is genuine, yes Singapore is much safer than Thailand. The cars drive in a more orderly manner, so you’re probably not going to get run over while crossing the street, and the crime rate is significantly lower as well.malcontent wrote: ↑Thu, 18 Feb 2021 11:17 amI’m not sure the person (or bot?) really wants to know... their only other post was “What do you know about Singapore” - - what kind of nonsense question is that?
Completely agree with your point about America. People tend to generalize and label the entire country as high crime, however they fail to consider the fact that the country is MUCH larger than Singapore so the amount of crime is actually proportionate to the size of the population. While some areas like parts of New York and Chicago are indeed high in crime, others are much lower in crime than many countries in Asia, maybe even Singapore.malcontent wrote: ↑Thu, 18 Feb 2021 2:18 pmOne thing I’ve noticed is that expats who live in places like the Philippines often use the old line “everywhere is the same, no matter what country you are in, you can be a victim of crime” - and just by sheer coincidence, the Philippines has almost 10x the crime rate compared to low crime countries in Asia.
Although statistically the worst in Asia, the Philippines still has roughly half the crime rate compared to the average country in Latin America, so by that measure, relatively safe!
Many here tend to view Singapore as the safest country in Asia, but Japan routinely beats Singapore. The US (which collects and publishes an amazing level of detail on crime statistics) tends to be viewed as a high crime country, but it’s a big country and there are many parts of the US that have lower crime rates than Singapore. You just need to know where to go (and where not to).
