OP may be running into a background check issue. A friend of mine who did his NS in SOC told me how well they check backgrounds.... every connection and every conversation online is there.

they can get those if they want to. But easy access?, not really. The local telcos may be quick to provide the info but google, fb, and other western based tech company may resist a bit. And the messaging systems are encrypted although there are special tools to break them available to governments.

+1

Also, unless your background checks throw out red flags related to terrorism or very serious crimes, I don’t think they’d bother trying to use every tool possible out there on every Tom dick and harry. Not trying to be naive here but I believe it’s in the govt’s best interest to use these tools judiciously.

Probably cost them more effort and man hours (=$$$) than what's worth it to be tapping into every innocuous conversation or porn search done by some random IT worker applying for PR.

I’d assume they run a script to do all those filtering.

Secondly, PR application takes months, if not up to a year. They have all the time in the world to run checks.

how come that script is very fast for some who gets the result within 4 months and for some how it kills the hardware/network/software/manpower resources and become too slow to go over 24 months (as in this case)!!!!!

Scripts still have to be written and fine tuned. Usually are clumsier and require more manual work to get relevant info from large amounts of data versus an expensive piece of easily configurable software bought off the shelf with some customization. If such a software even exists. Lots more effort than is worth it I would think. I think the gahmen is too pragmatic for that.

Trust me... they have it all via net intel. I don't know how (maybe bilateral agreement to open a backdoor to FB or mutual exchange with NSA) but they have it all. When a friend can call you into the police and show you your entire network of friends, how you relate to them and your conversations online in less than 24 hours why can't ICA do the same? Of course they can. And when they can't then they file requests overseas for the same which may require humintel input. There is no way ICA give approval without they doing an intel check and I suspect this maybe why we see some results take a LONG LONG time and then bam - Yes / No approval as the hand written response from the ultra slow Inter-Services Intelligence in Pakistan or similar has finally come back by post. I would not be surprised if the number of countries you have lived in actually correlates to the processing time either.

It's there and running right now. No extra cost to type into a specialised search tool your user name here and see where it links.

I think this is implicit and everyone might knows that even MOM does verification for EP holders qualification. So, for PR there should be more verification, which makes sense also.

It's far deeper than qualification verification.... the real risk for applicants for PR is that I suspect a lot of these systems are automated and are now using forms of AI that may throw up erroneous false positives (like the no fly list does) - that means PR candidates may be rejected and really have no understanding why and no recourse even though it is not their fault due to the risk adverse nature of ICA. The following dialogue explains....

ICA Clerk: Hey Pak: Got one "Usama Ben Laden" apply for PR, can or not? The system says this one already dead terrorist what.

ICA Boss: Hey you blur or what, these guys always name their kids after themselves, we take no risk you know. I cannot tahan being jobless again - that blary Mas Selamat cost me my job in ISA already once.

ICA Clerk: Ya lah, but this one already marry one Chinese gerl what.

ICA Boss: Got kids?

ICA Clerk: Ya one son.

ICA Boss: Now you want the grandson of Usama in the Intelligence corp? You bodoh or what?
