EP application Dec20 - pending

Post by jasonlee88 » Tue, 09 Feb 2021 10:22 pm

Hi all, hoping to get some advice on my case.

I’m currently in Singapore with STVP (old EP cancelled on the last week of Jan 21) and my new company has applied for my EP on the 26th Dec 2020, current status pending.

I received an email from MOM in mid Jan and it says that they need additional 3-4months to review my case, which is strange to me. Does it normally take this long for review? The only feedback I got from my company was MOM is doing a large audit to make sure it’s a fair hiring (locals vs. foreigners)

My STVP is coming to end on the 3rd week of Feb and I’m in the dilemma on whether going back to my home country first or do the STVP extensions.

Quick profile of mine:
- Malaysian, 7 years working experience (3 years in Singapore and worked for 2 different MNCs).
- My new company is a top tech giant and my offered salary is about SGD 8k - 9k/month.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Your STVP was granted by the MOM when your EP was canceled. MOM cannot extend your SVP as that can only be done by ICA. This is why there are NO extensions allowed on the end of contract STVP. However, you may be able to get a temporary extension if you cannot fly back to your home country due to Covid. But you will have to approach ICA and it is purely a one-off situation that may or may not be granted.
