Post by stephen_tankh » Mon, 01 Feb 2021 4:55 pm

Hi all,

I am a singaporean citizen and staying in singapore. I receivied news that my wife (indonesian citizen) has remarried in indonesia without ending our divorce in singapore. May i know is there any channel i can get information on her marriage status in indonesia? We were both registered in singapore and indonesia before. I guessed she might have found a way to cancel the marriage in indonesia without my knowledge.

Please help! We have a child caught in between too.

You will have to hire an investigator in Indonesia who has access to the marriage registry, I don't think you can enquire yourself. It may be worth a call to the Indo embassy here -> the office you want to make an enquiry from is the "Kantor Kependudukan dan Catatan Sipil di Indonesia". It's possible however that she did not do a formal marriage but married in a village with a local Imam, such a marriage won't be registered but is not legal either as I understand it.

This is a BIG problem unfortunately in Indonesia. A lot of folks there have entangled pasts and marriages that they have not cleaned up and bigamy / polygamy is not really prosecuted there.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!
