Student Pass for someone working remotely for not Singapore based company

Post by igor2021 » Fri, 22 Jan 2021 12:24 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a questions about Student Pass for someone who is going to study in Singapore whilst continue working for a company outside of Singapore.

My situation: I am Russian national living and working in Malaysia under employment pass. My partner lives in Singapore under S-Pass. We haven't seen each other since pandemic has started as entry for tourists is not allowed and DP/LTSVP is also not an option as we are not married.

Since I am now working remotely from home, I though to use this opportunity and take a 8-12 months full-time course in Singapore. This would help with my career because I am going to take a course that would actually be useful for me and I'd be able to reunite with my partner.

I've been reading restrictions and requirements for Student Pass and I am aware that it's not allowed to work for a Singapore based company.

My question is: is it ok to stay and study in Singapore with Student Pass while still working for a Malaysia based company?

They won't know unless you tell them and (Singapore MOM) won't really care as you're not impacting local employment.

Make sure you abide by the terms of the SP (I think there is a min class attendance).
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Thanks for your answer.

Attendance should not be a big problem as classes are 2-3 hours a day during weekdays and I should be able to make it most of the time.

Just want to make sure that I am not breaking any rules in either country by doing this.

^ I cannot speak for MY but for Singapore you're ok provided the funds are paid by an overseas firm. If for some reason you end up being paid in Singapore by a Singapore company that will be an issue.
