Overstayed in Singapore for a day. Need help!

Post by Chriscc » Wed, 16 Dec 2020 12:57 am

Hello everyone,

I would like to enquire regarding the overstaying matter. My Special Pass expired on 14/12 and I stayed here for a night till 15/12. My IPA & Work Pass issuance was approved on 15/12. It allows me to work and stay in Singapore from 15/12. Even though it was approved on 15/12. It still means I overstayed for the night correct?

So my question is how much do I need to pay for the overstay fine? I understand its $100-$500. But what are the chances that it can be $100 or maybe even waived? What is the best reason that I can give to have if waived or at most get a $100 fine? I depleted my savings to pay my previous employer bond. So I seriously have not that much money left.

I asked my previous employer to help me extend my Special Pass as I was still waiting for my Medical Result for the new employer. But they keep giving me tons of excuses like they cant anyhow extend the passes or they never extend before. What a joke. Luckily I left this company. From the one In Charge of me (Area Manager) to HR. All got shitty attitude. Ask me to pay this and that. But wasn’t even in the contract. After a few hours of discussion. I realized I was to lazy to really wanna argue with them. I only paid half of what was not in the contract including the bond. But it really is true that it is due to waiting for my medical result.

Hence the need of help guys. Please let me know soon. Thank you everyone for taking some time to reply to my post. Have a good day ahead!

The sooner you resolve it, the better. If it is your first offense, be sincere and honest about it, plead for leniency... it is good that it is a very small amount of time, it may even be possible for them to let you off with a warning and no fine, but it depends on the officer and how sincere you come across.

The one time I accidentally overstayed after my EP expired, it was already over a month before I realized it. I was on my way to Bintan when it was caught. The officer there said they couldn’t let me off with just a warning because it was already over a month, but they were able to reduce the fine amount.

I overstayed for a day once. I legged it to ICA the very next day and apologized sincerely, ate some serious humble pie. Still received an undiluted chewing out from the ICA officer, and kena summon, of $100 if I recall correctly.

But AFAI, I got off lightly, because if there's one thing ICA has a bee under their bonnet for, it's overstaying.

So my advice is to waste no time, run, don't walk to ICA and apologize profusely. That's pretty much all you can do at this point. Apart from keeping your fingers crossed.

Good luck.

By the way, should the outcome be in your favor, consider it your one and only Mulligan. Overstay again and it's very likely game over, thanks for playing.
