Sounds like somebody is skirting the laws here if they are SGC and not reporting all their income to IRAS. That may be one reason why you are having problems. A basic salary isn't enough for 1 person let enough two or more (if a baby happens to be on the way). You need a job paying in the neighbourhood of 4.5K/mo or revealing you hidden sources of income to IRAS as required by law. Your basic salary, sans allowances and/or bonuses is what is looked at by the relevant ministries.
