Citizenship pending for 2 years

Post by Pinkroses » Thu, 03 Dec 2020 10:13 pm

Hi all! I had applied for citizenship back in November 2018 so it has been a little over 2 years now. My application was completely done online. I know I cannot do anything but wait now.

Since my application is taking a while, I was curious to know what you guys think of my stats and how likely would I be able to get the citizenship.

Early 20s female
Not preferred race
Single
PR for > 10 years
PSLE, O level, A level, local university
Working in local company (65k income)

I have lived in Singapore for almost my entire life and it’s home to me. It feels very strange to not call myself a singaporean when I wholeheartedly feel like one so this citizenship means more to me than economical benefits.

If you know of anything I can do to improve my situation, do share :) thank you!

Frankly not surprised that its pending for so long especially as yours is a complex case. Obviously your application cannot be taken just on its own merit but consider other factors.
Lets start with your past, surely you came here with your family when you were young - what is their status, which country, how much did they integrate, did they apply if yes what was the outcome, if no why, how many PR in family, did anyone skip NS etc. just to name a few. You may think what has this got to do with my application? but it matters That was the past.
Now for present - you have a decent local education and job but not extra-ordinary (my guess from the info you provided). In case you are in a profession like sales/marketing etc. just an example where there are dime-a-dozen locals vying for opportunities, you know the chances - would they want one more especially in this challenging job environment - you know better.
Now for the future - if you get SC lets talk what are the risks- would you a)sponsor others as DPs or bring in more barang barang under your name b)Can you be financially self sufficient and contribute to SG in areas SG wants and not become another competition to already worried singaporeans in jobs c)can you integrate more, maybe marry a local, settling here or will you bring in someone new, especially as you said you are "not preferred race" - maybe even you dont know the answer for some of these at this stage, but surely they have some data points from past precedence. So based on all this, your case is not straight fwd.
Can you do anything to improve the situation? - No Nothing more at this time. But in a few years, maybe yes on some of the points I mentioned above. Anyways, all the best.

The elephant in the middle of the room may well be the answer. You did not indicate your ethnic background.

Wow! I really appreciate you taking time off to elaborate on all that! Thanks!

I heard a lot about “integration” into the country from other sources as well. Do you have any idea what one needs to do to consider integrated? Like does this include going to community events etc?

Also, I am in the tech field. Not sure if this is considered competitive for locals. I think what surprises me more is that a few of my friends with super similar cases as mine got their approval relatively fast ...

Racial quotas to maintain the racial balance.
That’s primary.

Integration would probably be family ties for most. ie those married to locals.

Others without family ties typically harp about their volunteering or social work, which may or may not be quantifiable.

You will eventually get it, provided you continue to work and live in SG

Re racial quotas/racial balance

“ This is in line with the Government’s commitment to maintain the racial balance in the citizen population, as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong stated in Parliament in 2013. This enables us to preserve social stability and the multiracial character of our society.”
