Marriage with NR Foreigner

Post by hellogoodbyee » Thu, 29 Oct 2020 2:46 pm

Hi, my partner and I are planning to ROM some time next year. We've applied for PMLA which is pending approval.

Me: SC, Paying taxes for 10 years, late 20s, $4.2K salary before CPF. Living with parents.
Partner is currently on SPass $5.8K.

Questions:
Would it be more beneficial to convert to LTVP (assuming it gets approved)? I've seen some threads where the advice was to stay on SPass.

What are the chances that our PMLA can be approved based on our stats above?

Partner is a divorcee, papers finalised in 2018. Would this have any effect on our application since it wasn't too long ago?

I think no one here will know how PMLA applications will be evaluated. Since your partner earns 5.8K I dont see any major issue remaining on S Pass / converting to LTVP if it is approved.

How old is your partner and gender?

30, Male. Our concern is that companies are less willing to hire foreigners now, even though he's holding on to a good job now the company could cancel his pass any time and he'd have to return. To his country. I guess we just have to wait and see.

I did a topic of PMLA to LTVP.

You didn’t mention your future spouse’s nationality/race or industry that he’s working in. ICA looks at how long you two have known each other, whether either of you have any criminal records, how often he was in SG prior to meeting you, etc.

The only concern is that he was previously married. Was he married to a SG citizen or foreigner? If it was a foreigner, I don’t know if ICA would see your upcoming marriage as a marriage of convenience.

I suppose it’s a 50-50 chance for the PMLA to be approved since it’s either yes or no.

I feel he may get the PMLA. If the company cancel's his pass at that time, he can move to LTVP that time. No rush

as fa as I know it’s not that the companies are not willing to ire foreigners
it’s just they have to prove that there is now locals who could done that job and this is really tricky and require a lot of paper work!

Just to update, we got the PMLA approved. :) I wasn't expecting a reply for another 4 weeks at least, it's only been less than a week!

Of course, next comes the actual process of ROM and applying for LTVP but we will take it one step at a time. Thanks to all who replied :)
