Passport Renewal

Post by SaraAbdul » Tue, 27 Oct 2020 11:54 am

Hello Everyone,

Not sure if I can ask on passport matter but here goes;

My Malaysia passport is expiring soon in Dec, I did not realize it as we are not travelling anywhere this year.

The thing is high comm here is SO BUSY and they do not accept walk in since end March 2020. If I applied online now, I can expect appointment for collection will be next year March or further. Thanks to the system not prepared for the WP holders stranded here.

My question - Is it legal not to renew my passport (on both sides of Singapore and Malaysia laws) at least for the time being since am not going anywhere anytime soon? My 2nd REP is valid for many years more compared to my passport.

What do you think?
Thank you guys!

I don't think you will have issue in Singapore as your identity in Singapore is your NRIC, not your passport. Just don't leave Singapore until you collect your new passport.

Some countries are "auto extending" passport expiry dates by 6 months or more. I suggest you get some fellow MY's together and pester your local MP to request this via the MFA.

You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

PNGK, I never heard of it but I will ask around, thank you for the idea.

Also I just get to know I may need to do business trip to Johor this Dec, I think I must write to high comm to ask for exception or something like that.

You've got multiple issues going on then. You may actually find yourself stuck in Malaysia.

It seems the situation is ever changing. Probably not a good idea to travel if you can avoid it. Even if you are able to come back to Singapore, you'll probably have to deal with quarantine on both sides of the border.
